Hi Folks,
I've got a Stihl MS250 and love it, just that here in Germany, parts for it are expensive. I just ordered 2 bar/chain combos for less than a bar would have cost me here.
Got me thinking because my B&C are shot from an abusive borrower and the stuff I ordered is not here yet, and I need a saw (we had a storm that dumped a bunch of trees), that I need a backup. Don't want to pay new price fo a reserve, so need to compromise a little. I found two different lots of about 6 saws on ebay of Stihl and Husqy for a reasonable price (all are listed as defect).
What is the worst that can happen (besides B&C) with these saws, and can I get parts online? I can fix things with a little headscratching. For example , if it's a carb, or piston/cyl assembly, can I order it online? Adjustments, I can ask a place like this forum. Thanks for the help,
Dave

In the area I live in, yes. Most of the road and forest crews you see on TV have them also. Husqvarna and Dolmar are used also quite a bit. Big farm equipment about 6 miles from me is a Stihl dealer also so that's the brand that gets the quickest service.

google for "Ron's saw shop south dakota". He can fix you up with new or USED parts. I dealt with him several times. Honest & helpful.

Nothing wrong with used Stihls - But you have to be willing to tinker with them. I bought an 056 on ebay in October - got it pretty cheap but I had to replace the ignition on it to make it run decent. A buddy just gave me an 015 for free that he said was "Shot" - it just needed a new hose for the oiler and a spark plug, now it cuts like ever for such a small saw! Are Stihls the most common saw in Germany? Since that is where most of them are made.

Most Stihl saws are now made in Virginia Beach, VA. Some of the big saws are still German made but most are not. Dolmars are still a good German made saw, though.
