Hey folks,

I just want to vent a little..... ...

I live in Germany, not too far south of Sweden. A husqvarna 357 XP saw would cost me (in Germany) $1125. + 19% sales tax ($1339). More in Sweden. But, I go online to a place in the States and find a place that sells the same saw w/ same warranty for $499. Same with a Stihl saw that I had a friend buy and send me. My pickup needed a starter fast, so I went online and saw that there was a Bosch starter for it for $67. Takes about 3 weeks to get something like that in the mail, so went to a bosch plant/dealer (they do motors and spark plugs in the town next to me). Almost $600 and it had to be ordered from America (I parked on a bank for 3 weeks).
Got that off my chest and feel much better.

Dave

1.40 euro. Not my country. My blood is Red, White, and Blue and always will be. Just happen to live here and like it real well. I work for the US Army, so don't pay import taxes. I had my buddy send me a Stihl saw last year.

Take Care,

Dave

Now with Euro being king compare to the green dollar I would think you could order direct from the US via fed ex and pay the duty and still be head??? OH Yes, the year I lived in your grand country the mark was 25 cents US. What is the price of one liter of ESSO?

It's fairly common for it to be more expensive to buy products in their country of manufacture than it is in the US. It is typically more expensive to buy Japanese products in Japan than in the US.

There are a lot of reasons for this. For one thing, the US market is huge and there's a lot of competition. How many chain saws do you figure are sold in Germany every year? I'll bet Stihl sells 100 times as many saws in the US than Germany, same thing with Husqvarna in Sweden. Of course, that's not a great example because Stihl and Husqvarna both build products in the US.

Not all.... I saw a bunch of Mercedes SUV's on the lot a while back with Made in USA paperwork on them.

Think so? Also found Solo saws that boast "made in germany" that sell for about half what they do here. Gotta live with it, I guess.

The American versions are probably made or assembled in Malasia or China.

Don't know about Husky, but Stihl saws are made in Virginia Beach.

Reminds me of back in 1984, left Boston with my brother and round trip airline tickets to Hawaii.
We only paid a couple hundred bucks for the tickets and flew under assumed names to build people miles up at the time, they never asked for I.D. back then,
it was common to see tickets for sale in the newspapers all the time Male/Female. Anyway store had Pineapples grown 2 miles away a buck more then Stop&Shop 6000 miles back home! go figure
