Hey Eddie, Knipex, I got these off of a Matco tool truck over a dozen years ago. They are made in Germany. You can get them in both internal and external, and in different sizes. They are the best, I use them just about everyday at work. they do not wear out. Jack

I have three pair of Blackhawk that can be switch from internal to external type. I really like that feature. I have had the type where you just change the tips. Tip toeasy to lose and when using the right angle tip the clamps did not hold well in the pliers.

NAPA has a heavy-duty set, but you may have to look in their catalog to find it--it's not the one that most stores have setting on their shelf. It has a screwdriver handle and screws in and out, enabling you to set and hold the ring at any stage of opening or closing. Even this set has its limitations--broke my buddy's when taking big, honkin' snap rings out of an outboard motor's lower unit--they were so far back in the unit that regular pliers wouldn't reach. Ended up having to borrow a trucker friend's OTC pair, and then weld up a sleeve for these so they wouldn't bend.

I have a three piece set with interchangeable tips. Three sizes of handles, all ratcheting and all switchable from inside to outside mode.

Can't remember the name of the darn things, but I'll look when I get to work if I can remember.

Best ones I have that have lasted and use the most were made by Proto, OTC or Channellock. Google search for those will bring up catalogs and dealers. Have KD pliers too but seldom use those takes too much time to set up and change tips.

My snap ring pliers are made by Channellock. They have always worked good and are reasonable. Also made here in Pennsylvania.

Few years ago you could get a twelve plier set from Mac for about $120- same Craftsman set was about $80.

I like my Craftsman set- one dedicated internal and one dedicated external. They have served me well and only cost about $15.00. NAPA will likely be selling a re-branded K/D tool... not that it's a bad thing... pretty much the same as Craftsman.
