At auction Saturday I bought a a dirty old Reed vise that is very heavy, tight, straight and solid. i suspect it is from a company that went out of business perhaps 50-70 years ago. It weighs twice as much as my newer Craftsman 6 inch. Anybody ever heard of a Reed vise? Thanks, Mike in Iowa

My Reed vise looks about like an Allied or Buffalo 6-inch bench vise, expect it's jaw is only about 5-inches wide. It is pure solid tight with no play whatsoever. It does not have replaceable jaws, but they are in excellent condition. I have a new USA-made Craftsman 6-inch for which I pain 59.95 and I wouldn't trade it for this old Reed for which I paid $10! The Reed weighs about 45 pounds. Thanks so much for the info. Mike-Iowa
