i have a homelite 150 chain saw that wont start. it has always been a great starter. i cleaned air filter, spark plug is ok. i tried messing w/ carb. adjustments and it a little out of wack now. does anyone know the correct idle adjustments and hi and low adjustments(number of turns after closed). I can get saw to run, but only after shooting wd-40 in the intake. then saw runs rough and chain is always spinning. Any help in this would be greatly appreciated. winter is coming soon. i burn wood as secondary source.

I also have an old homelite 150. It has been a good one, but just last week the starting rope assembly broke. This saw was still running great.
Would you be interested in selling yours for parts or buying mine. Let me know what you think.

The diaphrams in chainsaw carbs get stiff after a few years. Rebuild the carb before you do anything else. All (6) of my old chainsaws have had this problem. They ran like new after I rebuilt them.

You also want to gap the points and plug.

There isn't any "correct" setting for the mixture screws. You want to adjust the idle mix to get the highest idle speed. Then, you want to adjust the idle speed screw just slow enough for the chain not to turn. After that, you adjust the high speed screw so it "four cycles" at high speed when not cutting.

Go to Homelite's website and request an instruction manual. They sent me manuals for all the Homelite equipment I own.

Ya mean that there are three of them things still running and here i thought that i had the last one running atleast that is what i was told by the old guy that worked on it 10-12 years ago . The darn thing will start every time just like it has done from the start in about 6-7 pulls . as for the on posision push the swtich foward for on . as far as parts well the last time it was worked on even though i am a mechanic i took it to the last old guy around that knew his saws and that was at Ed Long equipment in Carrolton Ohio. Last year while doing some cutting of a downed tree up at my dad's place the fuel line rotted thru and was leaking now i did fix that with a new line for a couple bucks . I can not find my book on it as i was going to look up and see if there was a Part # for ya.

More then likey you need to put a new set of points and cond in it your crank seals are leaking and you have oil on the points . This happened to my 150 i don't work on them so i took it to and old fellow that did and it has been runnin just fine . I thought that i was the last one on the planet that had one of them Dinasores left in running cond. I think that the idel mix screw is half turn to 3/4 off the seat and the main is about one and a half then tune to max rpm then back in a littel , but i have never done that i go for the max rpm. Mine turns about 12600 they are only suppose to run about 8900 It sure cuts good at them R's.

I too have a Homelite 150 been sitting around for quite awhile, I put some fresh fuel mixture into it and pulled it over, ran just fine for a couple of days. Then the next time I started it, it would run fine at idle but when I tried to accelerate with the trigger, she would cut out and quit. It would start right up again but do the same thing, I tried adjusting the mixture screws and idle screw but to no avail. Now I can't get it started, it gets spark and I think it's getting gas ok. Any ideas or suggestions would be appreciated. I don't have a manual for it and don't know how to reset the mixture and idle screws. Thanks for any help, feel free to email me as I do not check these boards very often.

I have one too - but I hardly ever use it becuase it is, and always has been, very hard to start. Once they replaced the carb. manifold - they said it was warped and it always had stalled when it got hot and wouldn't start until cold again. Then they replaced the points w/ electronic ignition - it still isn't very good. I use my Stihl most of the time and the 150 collects dust.

My son and I just got a Homelite 150 from my father. He got it used himself and has no specs on it. After about 5-6 pulls it started and runs great!
We want to put the motor on a Go-ped and were wondering if anyone knew what the cc's are or what it's horsepower rating is/was.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Greg and Sam

Greg and Sam The displacement (2.64 Cu In) should be OK for that application. A better motor might be the Super2(1.9-2.0) series. Newer and more parts availability. Homelite used to have Kart motors that were in the 4.5 to 5.0 cu in. range. I stock almost any parts for the 150.

Thanks for the info BillW. I think we will start with the 150 for now (the price was right) but if we need to replace it, we'll certainly look into the Super2. Any idea's on a clutch that we could use that would allow him to idle it while sitting still then engage with engine rpm or even a clutch lever? I don't think the 150 clutch would hold tight enough to get him going. Most gopeds are direct drive from the crank through a drive spindle. I was hoping he could have a "cooler" set-up. :-)
Thanks for any input.
Greg and Sam
