That wire is probably made from some of that cheap Chinese steel everyone here complains about. You might consider replacing it with some 17-7 stainless. Good luck and send us restoration photos. hahaha

Well, I suppose one can fix anything, but are'nt these stainless steel ? That sure is a small piece of metal to try and join no matter what it is, but like any garment, a repair could save a few bucks you could put in the gas tank instead of replacing, I repair old jeans sometimes, for work clothes, they're going to get trashed anyway, might as well get the full use out of em.

Not sure if anyone is aware of this, but those flat type bra wires, seem to work very well on some types of coin operated laundry machines. I learned this when working in manhattan years back, was so darned busy as a project manager, I'd have to bring my laundry with me sometimes, our field office was in a 19 story building, owned by my employer, it had laundry facilities in the basement, a good friend who was also building porter there in this building, showed me this, who would have thought? Well if I ran out of quarters or something, I kept one hidden in my army duffle bag, hey I worked for the owner, but stealing is stealing no matter how petty, but it was good back up every so often, and they got more hours out of me than was bargained for, so I figured ok in a pinch for the dryer, still would have never thought that the flat ones could be used like this and they have the right curve, those digital readers were easily fooled.

This is more complicated than you are assuming; vector of stress, angle of dangle, etc. You may need a larger guage wire, since the load was obvious to great for the mass produced original. I see this topic rapidly going downhill towards the delete file.

If "bottoming out" is the problem, helper springs may be in order.

Everything has limitations.

I have found that my wife gets kind of uneasy when I approach her with any sort of tools in my hand. This job might best be done while she is gone and the broken bra properly disposed of in case something goes wrong.

Have you thought about removing it before doing what you described in words 10, 11 and 12 of your post? Might save some of the trouble you're having..... .....

Loathe as I am to say something practical here (when faced with such an opportunity for salacious comments), the wire is spring steel, which will lose its temper and become useless when you heat it.

Remember to take the bra off first, if needing help with the fastener (they can be tricky ) let us know.

You gotta be kidding, but detailed photos would help us understand the stresses you are attempting to overcome.

Now of course I am kidding - I know this is not the place for that.
