Does anyone know how to make a generator from a three phase motor ? I want to drive it with a single phase motor. Any comments would be appreciated.

This unit is easy to make. Using a capacitor to generate the third phase for running and additional capacitors for starting (if motor is loaded). You can get very hi-tech if you want to for controlling the start caps, and add a pilot motor for multi motor machines. This conversion unit works well on machines that start off load but you may have problems with on-load starts like compressors.
I can e-mail you a diagram if you give me details of supply, rating of motors to be run etc.
Hope this is of help.

Tony, I wonder if you could help me with using a 3 phase motor of of a single phase supply.

Voltage in Australia is 415 v 3 phase and 240 v single phase 50 hz.

I have a 4 pole motor with the following ratings: 0.12 hp 0.57 / 0.33 amps 240 / 415 v 0.67 hp

cheers John
