Concerning these 12v air compressors - anyone seen one with the gage on it? Set it to the pressure you want & walk off - done when you return. Trailer Life was talking about them but gave no mft or dealers. Anyone?

Maybe your solution would lie in a small oilless compressor, like a small Campbell Hausfeld that runs off 110 and an invertor. Would probably get a little pricey for the invertor, but you would have both a compressor that would work off 110 and an invertor to run other things.

Just an idea.

I've seen belt driven A/C compressors mounted for this purpose lasting for many years with occasional use.

If it is just for pumping up tires, I keep the 12 volt one like your talking about or use a spark plug adapter hose or when I go fishing with my float tube I use a home made one made from a old fridge compressor just plug it in to 110 and watch it pump.
Good luck Stan

Would like to work one up to put in my motorhome.

All mine is an old fridge compressor, with a piece of rubber hose attached to the metal tube with a screw on valve adapter on the other end like on a manual pump, plug it in works good. What I use it for is to blow up tires, and my float tube when I go fishing, requires 110 volt, I use it at my recreational property. Haven't got it here and didn't make it, but I think just hook up to small tube extruding from compressor. If you need more, sorry not going to property for another 2 weeks, but let me know I'll take a closer look.

For 12V, why can't you scrounge an RV fridge?

I don't think RV fridges have compressors. Mine never made a sound. I think they work by magic, which is why an RV fridge costs twice as much as a 110V unit and holds half the stuff.

Like most people I've tried them all. Have not found a good one yet. Seems you can find many 110v models that do a great job and last a long time. You may want to get one of these and hook it up to an inverter in your truck. Also,I have seen an adaptor used in a spark plug hole on an engine. Remove the plug and screw in the adaptor and a hose. Thats a cheaper way to go but it works for years.

A fella could build a spark plug adapter or simply buy one from j.c.whitney in chicago.
