2N generator

I just replaced the wireing harness on my 2N. The generator always charge my battery up to this time, although the amp meter did not work. While replacing the wireing, I put a new ampmeter on. When restarting the engine, the meter shows that it is discharging. ???? What could have changed? Is there a voltage regulator on this tractor? I'm lost and any info would be great.

If you retained the 6v positive ground chances are that the amp meter leads are reversed. Change make sure positive wire goes to ground [check w/volt meter to insure the gen is working. No regulator on this model, uses a cutout, wire from gen to amp meter

could you have passed the wire thru the ammeter in the opposite direction? that would do it
