I was just wondering if any one has tackled a project like this before or seen or knows of a company that makes them.

Im going to get an older 4x4 pick up truck, late 70's with the gas tank mounted behind the seat in the cab. Remove the box and mount a post pounder off the drivers side of the truck. on the passanger side of the truck i will mount the power unit for the pounder, this is to help balance the weight across the mid section of the truck. Over the axle I will make up a bunk of some description to hold a bundle of posts laying the same way as the axle. Over the back of the truck i will have 4 to 6 farm fencing wire poles This is where the wire will be spun off from.

Ive done alot of work custom post pounding with a JD 4400, flexi coil all hydrolic pounder towed behind a pick up an trailer, its a big pain in the rear hauling around all that equipment. but the terrain in my area is rocky, hilly and most jobs are bushy or full of tree's. The up side of a truck unit will be alot cheaper to runn, I can charge less and pick up a few more jobs. All the tools I need are on the truck not sitting beside the road on the towing truck like they are now.

Just wondering if any one has any thoughts, suggestions , compliants about this idea. I think it will work but could use a second answer.

PatM,

the kiwi pounder is exactly what I had in mind, Thankxs where did you find these, did u do a search for post drivers ??. I did one for Post pounders and found not much.

Ive kinda refined my idea, I got a little smarter, im going to try and find a toyota 4x4 pick up, shortbox. Eraly 80's the cheaper the better. Then im going to try and find an all hydrolic pounder or modify one, and mount if off the back of the truck instead of the side like a tractor. Then i can get into realy tight area's, that generaly every fencing job around these parts. plus my wight is better balanced, and can opeate like a tractor, straddling the string line.

What da ya think?

Have you finished this yet? Do you have a picture. ANy comments on pounding vrs. auger. I am thinking of using a skidsteer with post pounder. This will give me more reach for the hard spots, and will hook uo some remote controlls to drive the machine while outside.

I don't know the particulars on it but I saw one on a front wheel drive Chevy cut down car chassis once.

The feller had stripped the body off a wrecked car and built a bed and post driver like you are thinking about.

He had the aux hyd pump that drove off the engine belts with a A/C electric clutch on it so the hyd pump did'nt run unless needed.

The post driver was mounted on a swivel so that it kept the post plumb at all times. He could switch out the post driver and put on and auger bit to drill corner post holes and to set poles for pole barns.

Hi Guys, I'd like to get a picture of this machine when I can. About 15yrs ago I saw a large tracked machine like this in SD,(from a distance) of course its flat there. The machine only stopped to pound the post and then went to the next post. Three men operated it I think, fastening the wire to posts and reloading the driver with next post, and driver of course.
