Hard to start the gas once started diesel runs good. Plugs foul very quickly. Can't get gas idle high enough often try retarding sparks at the distributor. Carb or mag?

GEO ADVICE IS RIGHT ON THE MONEY,YOU MAY HAVE TO FLIP THE V SHAPED LEVER UP WHEN SWITCHING TO GAS.
I HAVE A 14A IN AN ASTUIN WESTEN GRADER,AND ALWAYS
HAVE TO FLIP IT UP.

I got a TD14A that needs a radiator. I bought the tractor without the radiator. The man I bought it from never got around to fixing it, but he swore it did great dispite needing a new radiator. I got it for 750 dollars, so I figured I wouldn't be loosing much since he put allot into the undercarrage years before. My question is.... Is there a good place to order a radiator from? No one can make one without the core dimensions (which I don't have) and I've been told a new one would cost 900 dollars!

Bill,
Do you have a 4 wheel drive and 4 wheel steer Austin Westen? The one that has a T-shaped steering control in front of you. If so what model
is it called? I have one also with a 14 ft. blade. My friends call it an
Awful Western.

You might check and make sure that when you open the decompressor (gas valves), that the butterflies in the intake manifold are completely closed in order to devert air flow through the carb. Usually the rod that passes through the intake gets to sticking and does not allow the butterflies to close completely thus causing sluggish performance on gas. This rod is suppose to act in a tripping motion from open to close. If you will notice the movement of the L shaped bracket that is on this rod when you shift the decompressor lever from diesel to gas it should flip up. When it has, reach over the intake manifold and see if you can pull it up further. If you can get it to move up a little more manually, then try to start it and see if it helps. Email me or post back if you have anymore questions.
