What Have You Run Over?

I do mowing and discing for fire prevention, and am in a lot of different fields, I have run upon a small block chevy engine a while back. Today I ran over a bathtub. I have been high centered on large rocks, and logs.When the weeds are 3-4 ft high it is hard to see this stuff. Any one else run over anything strange?

Several parts from my neighbor's tractor, PVC water line from my well, firewood that I haven't hauled up to the house, 6 golf balls (that act like artillery rounds when they fly), water meter cover, 5 chicken snakes, and 2 rattlesnakes (one of which stood his ground like Custer)

I was using a flail chopper to cut green feed for my cows. When I climbed up into the truck to fork it into the feeder there were two pieces of a black snake, which totaled about four feet, laying on top of the load. I never found the rest.

My dad was plowing in about 1970, and I was with. Fell off the dam thing, and before he could get stopped, he ran me over, with the plow. Didn't hurt much, but I did need about 20 or 30 stiches in the mellon. Be carefull.

Some of my experience mirrors that of others. I mowed a mattress, a big truck inner tube (they are TOUGH), a sack of portland cement that was thoroughly cured and the old grounding rod (3/4 pipe) at a former house site.

Back in the 70's plowing in a field that had just had some fence rows dozed out Case 2670 4wd. Going along just fine and all of a sudden lots of calcium loaded water started spraying over the cab. I hit the remains of a steel post with both 20.8 X 34 tires on one side.

Knew a guy who was combining beans and the phone company had buried cable along a country road. They gave the poles to a local farmer and he just dropped the old copper clad steel wire in the fence row. Wouldn't you know it started feeding and destroyed the concaves and cylinder in a 510 Massey before it plugged it to a stop.

I remember the man who mowed his 3 year old son off at the ankles. I have 6 tractors 1 Dozer 1 backhoe 1 skidstear, They are all like some women I have known, No mater how much you, love, service, clean them up, they will hurt you and not even thank about it. I try to keep my eyes open and my mine on my mission.

I remember that incident (if it is the same one) happened in the early 70's when the kid went to take dinner to his dad - sickle mower with the wooden flag rotted off. I was a kid at the time also - my imagination went wild when they told me they sewed his feet back on and then had to amputate again just below the knees because his body rejected/gangrine set in. My sympathies to the whole family.
My little brother's best friend fell into a PTO shaft a week later - U of M Hospital sewed them back on SUCCESSFULLY; he is now almost 40 and will whip you arm wrestling every time.

My first snow storm using the FEL on a JD990 ,,, My brothers boat ,,,,, after a lil ' talking we split the cost , found him a new one on-line for less than he paid for the one I run over and the next model up to ..... .... bill and the mighty boat crush'n JD...

Found a cat in the barn one night with no legs, just 4 bloody stumps. We mowed the feild of hay that day next to the barn. We put her out of her misserery.

What I DIDN'T run over - a batch of beer bottles set up between the rows of corn - just waiting to get a tire. Glad I saw that one first! Also found a nice pair of shed white tail deer antlers with the brush-hog.

With my tractor I ran over an old fence line while bush hogging. It was that square holed fencing. At 540 RPM I found the old, old, property line real quick. Needless to say it wasted better part of my day removing it. While driving out I found I had nearly 200 ft. of fence behind me.

When younger and slimmer I had a Triumph Spitfire 1500 sports car to impress the gals. One nite while driving back roads a little to fast I ran over a gator. Flattened front right and right rear tires. Only one spare. Limped on home that nite on rear rim.

I was in a tire shop a few years back. They had a rear tractor tire with a set of deer antlers sticking out of it. Pretty much ruined the tire and the farmer's day.

My BIL had just purchased a new disc mower and commented as to how much faster and better cutting it was than his old mower. Neighbor ask him to cut a 2 to 3 acre lot and he ask if it was clear. Neighbor said no one else ever had trouble. BIL goes about 20' and hits a set of old bed springs. Man was he hot.

My favorite is a chain harrow with a 15' bushhog. Really makes a mess of the chain harrow, opens up the governor on the tractor, too.

While discing a field I had a sudden and severe flat drive tire. The three inch gash was found to be caused by a large stone axe head that decided to surface after several thousand years-what are the odds? I've also run over many groundhogs, but thats sort of on purpose!

Using the dozer, I found that I had squashed a whole den of skunks. With Father's car one afternoon on the way home from work, grumpy that my brother was getting the vehicle instead of myself. The same skunk..... .. three times.

I was mowing old fields with a New Idea 272 flail
type mower and went over a double bed matress. I
never saw or heard till I came around on the next
pass. Chopped it up good and put it in a nice
wind row. Couple of passes later I found the box
spring the same way with the same results. Chose
not to rake and bale them even though I was using
the hay for construction bales.

Once had a dog run out and chase the front wheels of the tractor as I was going down the road. Stupid mutt didn't realize it had back tires and duals at that. I ran over him and he GOT CAUGHT IN BETWEEN THE DUALS. Took a few revolutions of the tires before I realized what happen. Stopped and pulled him out and somehow he got to his feet and ran for home. He still chased cars but he left tractors alone after that.

Well this is what I nearly ran over-:
Opening out a 60 acre field of hay I just stopped in time before I hit a 'naked human female form' hidden face down in the very thick and very long grass. As you can imagine I hit the brakes pretty damn quick only to discover that it was a mannequin from a shop that someone had thrown over the hedge! { sigh of relief } I just cannot imagine what it must be like to discover a real human body because I must admit my heart was pounding for a good 3 rounds or so after that.

When delivering a combine for my dad (in about 1966) I was following the service road along a fairly large irrigation canal. As I rounded a corner what did I spy - a young lady skinny dipping. I could not believe she did not hear the combine until I was right next to her. The water was about 3 feet feet deep and pretty mirky. She should have just kneeled or sat down, instead she choose to crawl up the bank on the opposite side. What a view!

I hope they pay you well for that work. I watch these guys mowing roadside for the state and I'm mighty glad it isn't me putting my tractor into mudholes and culverts, getting tangled up in rubbish or hooking onto delineators, etc. No thanks.
