My Uncle Nigel drove one of those while he was in her majesty Queen Elizabeth's service during the Boer Wars. That was how he came to be betrothed to my Aunt Matilda. I would love to ask him about it but sadly both were lost in a derigible accident in the Yukon.

The Soviets used a lot of them in Siberia as engines on their prison trains. They transported slave labor from all over the Soviet Union. There were several folk songs written about the trains by prisoners.

Actually they are currently being made in Loose Tooth, Oklahoma using K-cars from the 80's as the basic part donor vehicles. I must admit though there are a few features on the one in your photo that do not show up on the current models.

Been wondering where you guys have been keeping yourselves- guess there just hasn't been anything on here lately that caught your fancy. As politically incorrect as it may be, my first thought was "Edward Tom David" when I saw the picture.

Well, them little engine like things was mighty common in Algeria in the early fifties. They used them on the the Trans Algeria Railway and in the sand mines. The ones on the Trans Algeria had masts so that they could raise sails when the wind was right.

That spring in the center front was used as the clutch pedal return on the (deleted) tractor. I know because it looks just like the one I had when I was using it to log above the timberline after I lost my muskoxen over the cliff.
Sure wish I hadda kept that machine, hindsight being what it is.
