Ford tractor serial numbers can be prefixed with "A", "B", or "C" depending on location of final assembly. "A" was for Antwerp, Belgium. "B" was for Basildon, UK. "C" was for Highland Park, or in later years Romeo. That said, to determine the production date, you need the UNIT code, as found on the plate under the hood, on the trans (I believe near the serial number). There were also production date codes for the engine, hyd pump, rear axle, trans, and hyd lift, which are the same format as the UNIT code. The code on the engine is found on the upper right front buckle up flange, below the fuel pump. An example code would be: 5L29C
First # "5" is year, 1965
Next letter "L" is Month. In this case November.
Next two #'s "29" is the day
Last letter "C" is production shift, in this case Afternoon.
Month codes started with "A" for Janurary and ended with "M" for December. "I" was not used because it might be mistaken for a #1. The shifts were "A" for Midnignt, "B" for day, and "C" for afternoon. Serial number will not give you the production date, only the Unit codes can do this. Unit codes also repeat every 10 years, so the above example is also valid for '75, '85, etc. Hope this helps you sort it out.Rod
