I posted this over on the Case forum but nobody responded so I'll try here. Tried to get one of the rear axle housings off my Case V (not a VA) since I've got to get into the brake assembly inside. Got all the big bolts (8) off holding the housing to the tranny/differential housing. Then removed the outer bearing retainer plate on the outside end of the axle housing. There's a seal and shims in there too. My manual (a generic all-model Case manual by Motor's Truck and Tractor Repair) is somewhat vague on the instructions. It says the whole housing should slide right off after undoing the bolts but I get about 1/4" then I can't get any further. I believe the whole outer half of the disc brake assembly should be coming with the housing too. I'm not sure of the bearing type on the outer end of the axle shaft. Should this thing slide right off or is this a normal problem in removing such a housing? Is anything special supposed to be done to the outer bearing or the brake linkages or adjustment bolts before this whole thing slides off? In any event, I'd sure appreciate it if someone that has gone through this could contact me here or at my home email (I've removed the 'hide' on my email link). I could sure use some help and advice. There doesn't appear to be a real detailed shop manual available for the V, at least I haven't been able to find one.
