Novice buyer of jd 110 lawn tractors. What do I need to watch out for on the early models, other than what is visually obvious?

Most forty year old garden tractors have rusted
away, peacefully. But there's MONEY to be made on
anything Deere Green. Buy another can of touch up paint, sand some rust, spray that #9 weld, looks good from a distance. Why would you want to but a
tired little lawn tractor? The drive on these was a few belts, kind of primative. With a deck mower
they sold new, for around $695. in '63. I looked
at one, glad I didn't buy it. Bought a rebuilt
54HP tractor, at farm auction, a few months later
for $700.00. I'd look at a restored one, never buy
one in 2003. Not much there beneath the paint.
