I would like to know about "Long" tractors, are they good, bad, or what. Any comments are appreciated. Thank you Dick

I don't know much about Long, but I do know that the 910, 1110, and 1310 were Zetor powered, and probably built by Zetor. Eastern Bloc junk. There are several Zetors around here, and I don't know of one that went over 5000 hours, most got no where close on the engines. They are expensive to rebuild. As mentioned, Long had several suppliers, so some models may have been good, but in my opinion, Zetor is not. Don't walk....run.

just got done using 3 of them in hayfield. All diesels, all dependable for several hay seasons now. 445 4wd, 260, 2460 4wd. Belong to my buddy & he has done average repair work on them that you could expect from JD, MF, AC or C-IH. Seem to be as good a choice as any brand.

I had a little 560, only tractor I was able to afford when I started out on my own (back in '87). It was a gutsy little tractor, would run hot if you really pulled it hard but did everything I asked. Got it cheap kept it 3 years, and made money when I sold it.

Important points: these tractors were designed for and built in the old eastern block. Labor was cheap, parts expensive, and supply networks irregular. Air filter was oil bath, hydraulic filter washable. Most US farmers won't maintain these things like they need. Mine had just had an overhaul at 3000 hours when I got it and the lift didnt work. All I did was wash the filter and flush the transmission with kerosene. Lift worked fine. Guy that had it changed the air filter 1x per year and the book called for weekly chnages in heavy use. I paid $1800 for the tractor and got $3500 for it, other than routine stuff I put 1 tire on the front and a high dollar water pump on it.

Well it all depends. Over the years Long has badge-engineered tractors from Nuffield-Leyland,Ursus,Landini,UTB,LG,and now Escorts-Farmtrac. Probably were others also.
