teed off at local cable tv co .insurance co. To make a long story short ,I got hung up in an cable tv overhead line while the tractor and mower was on a trailer[total height of 12feet tall]. estimate of damage of 5500dollars to repair. Cable co admitted that they did not have proper clearance. Now ins co. only wants to pay 1200 dollars says that is all it is worth . What would a Kuhn GMD 77HD be worth?I am not going to accept their offer and told the adjuster that I would let 12people or the judge tell me what it is worth. I told them that I wanted my mower fixed and "SHE"said it wasn't worth fixing

I sent this to my brother-in-law who is in insurance adjuster. He suggested to find a good used mower that you would be happy with and make the insurance company buy it for you.

I have rebuild mine several times, just bearings and disks. I don't think most people know the expence that can go into fixing these mowers. $1,200.00 sounds more like replacing a good newer sickle mower.

Good for you! Go ahead and fight them and more power to ya. I work for an electric co-op and there should be no question that they are liable on a clearance issue since they have already admitted it.
Back in the late '70s, the town discovered a million gallon/day water supply on some of our land. They took roughly 10 acres of our meadow near the river. They offered dad about 10 or 15K. Dad didn't take it. So it went to the Eminent Domain Commission. They said it was worth $40K. Dad said it was worth more than that just for the land, to say nothing of the beautiful water supply they had discovered. So, it went to court. By the time they paid for the land and all the interest that had accrued over the 2 or 3 years it took to get it settled, we ended up getting some over $170K. If the town had just been a little more reasonable to start with, they could have had it for a fraction of that. But the head selectman, who had aspirations as a lawyer himself, thought he could get it for next to nothing. He found out otherwise. We made photocopies of the two checks for posterity sake.
A lot of that money went to our lawyers but it was money well spent. They did a fantastic job.

just outa curiosity, what kinda damage did it do to your mower? o cant picture a cable line doing much damage to a mower since usualy when struck they break away at the poles without too much force, i know that a local construction company hooked one with a forklift and it came right down like nothing. im not saying your mower isnt damaged i am just curious. and best of luck dealing with the insurance company

Even though the cable co. admitted fault, they should still pay. Anything less than 16 feet of clearance is supposed to be posted on a sign, just like out on the highway for low clearance situations. The cable company is liable on this one.

Sorry to hear about your mower. Also sorry to say that "she" is probably right about the value, and Not likely worth fixing. I'm guessing it twisted the hitch frame? Mabey cracked the deck? Hauled the curtain and curtain frame apart? I've seen a few Kuhn's at auctions, and never seem to fetch more than $1500 Cad. That's about $1200 USD. However, if they admitted liability, I would think they have an obligation to either repair or replace. It wasn't your fault. You didn't ask for this mess. They did. Just the same, you won't get a new one out of them. We once had a fight with an adjuster on a livestock claim. He didn't like our value. Said he could go to stockyard in his area and get the animals for half the cost. We told him fine. Get same quality, age, and vet certificate of guarntee of health, shipped to us at no cost to us. IT took a year, and a bit of fighting, but the cheque did come. Don't take the first offer. They're just trying to bait you. But like I said before, I think she is right about the value of the mower. Good luck.

Rod
P.S. I have a NH 465, which is the same as your 77. Excellent mower, except for the wrapping on the outer disc.

twisted and bent cutterbar ,ripped canvas cover broke canvas frame and also main frame broke, basically totaled .The cable that I hit was about the size of one-half inch steel cable .If I had not had the front of the tractor chained ,it probably would flipped it off backwards then they sure nuff would have had a bill. All I asked from the ins. co.was to either fix or replace the mower with one of the same make ,model and size and in equal condition.

I had assumed you meant the cable company's insurance. Company is liable, in my opinion. Like you said, they should either repair or replace. Good luck.
