What would be the fastest staock tractor you have driven on the road. I have a JD 5020 that goes fairly fast for a tractor (when it is running)

last fall, after a night in the combine, untill 3:00AM, I'm driving to work, when a grain cart passes me. WHAT THE.... JCB Fastrack pulling a Brent grain cart to the elevator near us. He was running at least 45 or 50mph. It doesn't take a lot to stun me at that time of morning.

Growing up in Nebraska we had an IH 806 standard 23x34 tires would do a rather scary 27mph.

I'm about 3 weeks away from restoration of a 1950
Love rowcrop- 230 cid Mopar engine-5 speed New
Process truck transmission-Eaton 2 speed rear
end. Sales brochure lists speeds over 42 mph.
Dad used to run one about 45 mph before the
'shimmy's' started. Doubt that I will have the
intestinal fortitude to get it much over that. Time trials are expected on 9-10-03 or as soon
as the paint cures a little more.

Do you count tractors out of gear coasting? Perhaps Farmall 400 with TA in low range? Ozark Mountain highway in western Arkansas.

The fastest I have personally driven was a 'Trantor'. Went very swiftly (50mph+?), but was designed as an Ag tractor. Had most all the facilities of a small tractor. Still in production, I believe.

Yes the Trantor is still in production their website is: www.trantortractors.com it looks like a good tractor i saw one park at the local market was a scruffy one i think it was a MK1 not sure though.

I have a 1965 Oliver 1650 diesel that was factory equipped with a high speed transmission option. 5th & 6th gears are much faster than the standard ones found in 99% of these tractors. With 15.5-38 rear tires, it would go a measured (paced) 27 mph at 2450 rpm. This spring, I removed the Hydra-Power Drive & replaced it with an Over/Under Hydraulshift, which has a 20% overdrive, & pushes it down the road at a little over 32 mph. The last of the 1650s & early 1655s had this combination available. It can be some fun on a tractor ride !!!!!

We've got a Case 1070 that I topped out at almost 25 mph with. My NH TR86 combine hits 18 mph.

Stan, Fastest production run tractor I have had the pleasure to operate was a 72 JD 5020 probably very simular to yours. We lined up this 5020 and a brand new 76 JD 4630 both 150 rated tractors The 5020 beat the 4630 by 1/4 mi on a 1 mile run.
Same preformance in the field also. The 5020 was a better built and balanced tractor over the 4630. Only thing it needed was the SG cab w/ AC& Heat, To be the PERFECT tractor!

The slowest I ever drove was a JD H- was pulling a hay rake to a field about 3 miles away, in 100 degree heat- By the time I got there, was fantasizing about when my vacation would be over so I could get back to the office.

I believe the Empire Tractors with the post WWII Jeep engines would move out rather smartly, the brakes had a bit of trouble keeping up !

I believe Allis made some model A's or U's with a fast gear for tractor racing. They were said to go 50 MPH if allowed to go on a straight stretch.

Had a Ford Jubilee a few yrs back with tall rear tires and Sherman hi-low aux tranny.Village constable gimmee a warning for 32 in a 25 zone,hurrying home for supper.(paced not radar)

In the old tractors the silverking 4 wheeler was said to be the fastest.During WW2 when the speed limit was lowerd to 35, the guys tell me they where passing cars on the road all the time.

The fastest tractor around here in upstate NY in the 50s when I was a kid was the Silver King. We called 'em "single" King because of the single front wheel. We'd work for less for the local farmer who owned one just so we could go like 'ell if we got a chance to run it on the road between farms. Didn't take much to make us country boys happy back in them days!!

well i believe the JCB fastrack may be one of the fastest, it goes about 45 mph on the road and has suspension on all 4 wheels. also one that arguably is or isnt a tractor is the unimog, that will also travel at highway speeds but still has 3pt and pto options, so i guess it depends on what you consider a tractor. but as far as traditional tractors go i can say my ford 8000 will do about 18mph on the road, no too fast but plenty fast when ya hit a bump and start bouncing around.

I run my 1950 Custom tractor in a tractor drag race which has a track length of 200 feet. at the 200 feet mark, I am running between 45 and 50 mph. I am not for sure how much faster it would go, and I really dont care to know.

The Friday Tractor, automotive transmission. Speeds possible up to 60 MPH, didnt drive it that fast though, fear and common sense kicked in at about 35 or so.
