I was watching Ag-Day this morning while getting ready to head out the door. They were talking about the drought in the western plains area. We have just about floated away this summer. So far in August, we have had 2-3/4" of rain, and it's rained on 7 of the 15 days. From May 1st, untill now, it's rained more than I ever remember for a summer. The crops look good, but the rain is making it rather difficult to get hay in. How's things going for the rest of the world? I,m in southern Indiana, not too far from Louisville, Ky. (We farm 788 acres near Leitchfield, Ky. and now own 194 acres near Henryville, Indiana)

Not too bad up here near South Bend, IN. Could use an inch or so within the next few days though.

Here in S.West Ga., rain is spotty, but ample. A friend told me last week that he had 15" of rain in 13 days. It hasn't been that bad at my place, but I have to be careful where I drive.

Send that rain to Kansas we need it bad. Ground is cracked open 2 inches wide don,t know how deep. We have been very dry last two years. Most of the corn is burned up and put in the silo Beans are still green but thats about all. Milo tring to head early planted looks fair late planted not much there. One maybe two cuttings of alalfa thats all. Grass hay maybe average. So send us that surplus rain. Anyway this is a great next year country so next year will be better. With the Gods help. AMEN

Here in NC, we have already had 45 inches of rain this year and the normal for this time of year is about 27. Rained here every day the first 13 days of August. One of those days had 2.8" on my property in less than an hour. I tried to sell a truckload of gullies, but a friend told me that before I started bragging about my gullies, I should visit the Grand Canyon.

Here in Southern Ontario, we just finished our first cut hay, second cut is ready along with winter wheat and oats. Rain , rain , rain. Soys were late planted due to rain and are far behind due to the rain and cool weather which has followed, dought if they'll make it. Oh well , as a first cousin would say , "Who wants to die rich anyway!"

We have had 4" of rain in the last 2 weeks here on the east coast of Canada. Just comming off 4 decent "hay" days and finished baling our first and only cut at suppertime. Lakes and rivers are close to spring freshet levels. The oats look real good and there is great after grass to pasture. Good luck to all with the haying. Roy

Here in catalonia is hottest summer we ever had. I doesn't rain since may and looks like it won't rain before september. The crops are irrigated but too much sun aren't good for the crops.

I hear from family a little north of you that y'all are baking. Seems that those grapes are ready for a fantastic year.

Keep cool.

just got started on baling 57 acres of hay. made one round in the first of 3 fields. rain started again. the weather has set us back so much that we still have 35 acres of third cutting still standing.

we get 4 or sometimes 5.
if I was going to get 5 I should be starting the 4th cutting not. 5th would be cut after frost adn usually wrapped as haylage since it is hard to get it dry that late in the year. problem is I already have too much wrapped. I started first cutting on may 9th and have been at it ever sicne. making about 250 acres of hay is a full time job. we have 57 acres on the ground now and still have 35 to go on third cutting. a lot of the early cut is ready to cut the 4th time now.

Yeah I am sure 4 or 5 cuttings is a lot on 250, I suppose it is about the same as us doing 380 with 3 or 4 cuttings. Busy but making money at it! Finally!

Here in central MO, folks are going around saying it's drier than a popcorn fart. We have had a 1/4 inch since the 4th of July. The alfalfa is stunted badly and the ground is cracking up to 3/8 of an inch wide. So send some our way, but not all of it.

Here in N.E. Kansas, we've had .30" in July and .70" this month. Lots of silage being cut. Corn yield might match the moisture of the grain. Beans podding, and trying to bloom some more. But they're showing stress with temps in the 90's and 100's. No rain, no beans either.
