What is the best penetrating oil and or the best way to loosen stuck nuts, bolts, levers, etc....
Just curious what others have used.

There are a few good ones around. PB works good as a rust breaker. Not a good lubricate. You have to be careful with it on some things. I got some of it on a Craftsman trouble light and it desolved the plastic. Fell to the floor and broke into a million pieces. It just crystalizes plastics. Marvel Mystry oil works good if you have a lot of time. WD-40 is terrible compared to most others unless it is just a quick fix and you don't have anything else. Most sprays with silicone in them are good for lubrication that last. Also sprays with the graphite which I use on garage door rollers are good lubricators. Lots of good ideas here. If all else fails, soak it in water. I have tried that on carburators and it works after 3 days. It froze it up and broke it loose after years of setting around.--deadeye

I get the best results with PB Blaster. Next is Liquid Wrench. WD40 is about the same as 3in1 oil, not very good.

I work in a stone Quarry and one smell that you will never forget is PB Blaster mixed with rock dust!!! We use it on EVERYTHING. We buy it by the truckload and every once in a while a can makes it's way into my lunchbox:) I have never used Kroil, but I might order a few cans to try.

Once I get things loosened up, my favorite for long term lubrication is "SUPER LUBE". It has teflon, and a heavier base which protects and prevents rust far longer than most other products, like WD-40, etc.

That's different enough I'm going to have to try it. Kinda makes some sense though. Most fly sprays are an oil, and a light one at that.

"The best penetrating oil is the one you used last before something loosened up!"

I have had real good luck with Gibbs, plus it can be used for all sorts of other things like starting fluid, moisture displacer, rust preventer, etc.

PB blaster is what I normaly use but I will buy "Free" when I can find it. I have only found it in one place and they quit carrying it. It is made by certified chemical and is mainly for industrial use.

I like the Kroil. They make it in aerosol called aerokroil and with silicone called silikroil and also a graphite penetrator in aerosol. Find it at kanolabs.com , not in stores. The best thing to use with any penetrating oil is PATIENCE.

I use PB Blaster and and as soon as it breaks loose I spray silicone on it to ease its removal. PB Blaster is good on rust but doesn't lube worth a darn.

I also like PB Blaster and Kroil. Have also used Liquid Wrench with success, but it doesn't seem to penetrate as fast.

Product called fluid film works better than PBblaster and then leaves protection on the fastener!!!

Interesting, I have never seen this product mentioned but it is what we use and my father swears by it.

Fluid Film gets my vote too.

Are you in Canada? Maybe it is a Canadian brand.

Actually, I have had pretty good luck using a mixture of diesel fuel and brake fluid, if I need a bit more lubricating ability, just add a little motor oil to the mix.

Brake fluid, diesel fuel, and automatic transmision fluid (Dextron if it makes any difference)

Just a note, Indy... That brakefluid will peel or discolor painted areas! Be careful where you use it!

Liquid Wrench *with Teflon* is my favorite.

It's no better at breaking free then PB Blaster, Kroil, Break Free, or a number of other very good penetrating oils. Where it beats them hands down is once I've broken the fastener free.

Many times with things like Kroil or PB you end up jammed because of the rust particles in the threads. The Liquid Wrench *with Teflon* lubricates and seems to float the rust well. Rarely do I end up with damaged threads, or have to use force, once the fastener is broken free.

My favorite tool for breaking free a rusty or frozen fastener is a hammer. A series of sharp raps will tend to break up the corrosion or rust and release the fastener. This is especially good on steel bolts or studs in an aluminum housing.

PB Blaster is great, but I have had even better luck with an industrial product called Kroil made by Kano Labs.....I am not sure you can buy it unless you have an industrial account??? At least it used to be that way....

you are right, it is from Kano and I have had very good luck with it. On the can it says to order direct from Kano at 615-833-4101. if they have a distributor nearby they should tell you.

I have had great luck with Kroil. You can only get direct from Kano Labratories as mentioned earlier. You can buy 1 or 2 cans to try or cases or by bulk in pour can. Been buying the aerosol cans by the case for years and can never find mine because they seem to grow legs so I had to lock the shop.

PB Blaster was being sold up in these parts a few years ago. Someone was bringing it in then some salesmen were selling it on their own to some parts stores etc. But it never was really imported legally so I've been told. Something to do with labelling problems (no French if you can believe that). I still don't think it's available up here, some guy's were looking into bringing it in last thing I heard. A product called "Nuts Off" is supposed to be pretty good. I've used a line called "Moov-It" which also worked well.

I have always used PB Blaster Penetrating Oil. I have had great success with that. It broke loose two pistons in a stuck engine and numerous nuts, bolts, etc. I have also hear great stories about Gibbs Penetrant. I have never used it myself, but I heard it works wonders.
