Parts shipping?

I have to have a recent parts purchase shipped from San Diego, California, to Lexington (or roundabout rural area) Tennessee.

The package is 57 inches Long, 47 inches Wide and 10 inches High. Estimated weight is 150 pounds.

The cheapest quote so far is 226 bucks. UPS Oversized packages was around 300, and Fed Ex will only air ship it, wich was -way- out of reasonable shipping costs.

We're checking with small trucking companies now, but are there any avenues that are being overlooked? Who might be willing to deliver this to a private residence? I can unload it, and I'm sure it would either be loaded or dropped off at their terminal in San Diego. A tracking number is a must.

My uncle is a local Fed- Ex truck driver, and the gentleman in California discovered it can be ground shipped. But we wont have a quote from them until Monday. We may wind up just shipping it via Fed Ex to my uncle, because I believe he has a discount.

We're in TN, too-- around Fayetteville. We run a small business that periodically requires that we ship freight in the neighborhood of 100 to 4000 lbs. Best folks we've found locally in terms of price and service have been BAX Global. They should have a location near you and may be able to deliver direct. You may also have a AAA Cooper nearby-- they're pretty ok, but not as good as BAX. $226 sounds about right to me. You may be able to knock 40 or 50 bucks off, but probably not much more. If you have friends that ship freight regularly they may have a better discount than you can get as a little guy-- check with them. The motor freight world stills operates on some kind of bizarre discount system for less-than-load quantities. Pretty hard to rap your brain around the whole thing.
