As mentioned, check serial number. Also, a d-14 has 26" rear rubber and a d-17 has 28" The d-17 is larger both in overall size and hp. (55 hp) The d-14 is comparable in size to a WD allis both in physical size and hp. (35 hp)

Check the serial number which is stamped on the flange of the torque tube, left side where the engine and the torque tube meet. D-17XXXX or D-14xxx. You can also check the engine serial which is also on the left side of the engine near the rear of the engine.

The D-17 is coniderably larger than the D-14. Remember there is also a D-15 in the litter. The D-14 is maybe a 35 HP tractor and the D-17 around 75HP (I am not sure of these figures) but it's noticable.
