I bought a brand new New HOLLAND TC30 last year, havent used it very much I went to bush hog with it the first time and when I was blowing it off I noticed grass was wrapped around the 4wd shaft comeing from the front of the trasmission. I cleand the grass off and I notised that the grass wraped so tight that it got between the seal, I called New Holland about it and they said its under warrenty but wont cover it because it was grass that made it leak they also told me that I could fix this myself that it was easy to put on a new seal. Has anyone had this problem with their TC30? Is it really easy to fix? If so how can I fix it myself I dont know much about macanics,If im starting to have this type trouble this early im really scared that I might have made a big mistake of buying this tractor all my family has owned for the last 50+ years are John Deeres and VERY FEW PROBLEMS WITH THEM and they where worked hard every day. Is the TC30 anygood?

Thanks Trey

This does NOT constitute abuse. Haggle with the dealer again..... .you'll probably not go anywhere with him..... ....then hit the corporate website. Read them the riot act. I had to do this with my Stihl chainsaw. Dealer wasn't worth a $hit and was ignorant about the repair my new saw needed. I paid the outragious bill to get the saw back and promptly wrote the big guys. Corporate guys thought differently.....had the dealer sent me a reimbursement check!

I would tell them in a nice way that it was used with normal use. If they dont fix it, tell them to come and get the tractor and you want a full refund. That should get their attention. By the way I have a New Holland TN70 and I am very happy with it. I had a few little things fixed on it, but I had excellent service. I even went and told the owner how well of a job the mechanic they sent out did. I have been around green tractors all my life and I think this one has given no more problems than any other color.

I bought a new TN75S, had 4 hours on it when I bought it. First time I used it was baling hay and on the forth round, the fuel tank fell off. You gessed it, they were looking for teltale signs of the tractor running oversome thing to cause this problem. None found, they brought out a new loaner that was used for demos until a new tank was installed ( the original tank was run over by the baler).

The TC 30 is probably as good as any compact. Can't tell you much about changing the seal, but I doubt that you will get far with NH. That, in my opinion is not really normal wear, but would be classified as misuse in their world. But hey, it's worth a shot. Dealer may not want an unhappy customer. The shaft has to be guarded, and most anyone with a FWD tractor has found that out the hard way. Actually, I thought they were all guarded these days. I think if you check, you will find they offer a kit for this. Good luck.

It is my opinion and it is not worth much but they knew that the tractor would be run in the field when it was being designed and built and they should have been aware that grass grows in fields and should have taken steps to prevent this type of thing. It is NORMAL use and they should stand behind it. Yes I can see their side but a warranty ia a warranty . Yes the grass may have wrapped around the shaft and caused the seal to leak. As I said before this is normal use and I do not think it is abuse Is there a warning in the manual about this. I may not have had any luck but I would push it. If it is so EASY to fix why don't they do it for customer realatiosn? I wonder if this has happened to them before and they just do not want to get started replacing them for everbody. And on the other hand it might not be a big thing but it is the little things that pile up and turn good equipment into junk. Hope you get them to see it this way and talk them into doing it for you.

I agree with Sid. Push in a nice way. That is normal use of a tractor, should be covered since it's such a small deal.

They need a guard there to prevent grass from buildinig up. Never even looked at my 1720, should be shielded?

Made me look, made me look.

Here it is after midnight and you made me go look at my 1720. Mine is a 1995 and is shielded. I was sure it was, but you sure got my curiosity up at any rate.

Im sorry I might have scared you bout the grass,I took my seal out of my tractor myself and cleaned it and it wasnt damaged at all, just a grass stem got between it and caused it to slow leak. But I took the seal out and cleaned it and put it back in, no leakes at all now before I get on my tractor I get under it and check for leaks like this, this tought me a lesson, would have been bad if I where the type person like I know that dont check anything just get on the tractor and run it.

Count yourself lucky. You got away with it this time. Baler twine makes a nice mess of seals too. I would seriously look into getting a drive shaft guard, or put a piece of PVC or big-o over it, or something to keep stuff from winding. It could save you a lot of hassle. Glad to hear it worked out OK for you.
