Hello all. I have a set of rear tractor tires only seven years old and they are starting to weather crack. Sits in barn all time when not in use. Have tried stuff from local auto parts store but not much success. Any ideas. Thank you Archie

Follow up. They are good year tires. I use the tractor about three hours a week. It is a fifty three model 40 john deere The original tires finally split past using. Maybe this set will last as long as i need it. Thank all of for the comments. Good luck to all. Archie

I was told once that the best way to prevent tire cracks is USE THEM.

By flexing the ruber you prevent them from drying out and cracking. SO drive, boy drive! You never see cracked tires on a tractor that is used every day do you?

Other than that use the tire protectants that are available at retailers.

Oil eats Polycarbonate (Lexan) plastic, but I don't believe it does anything to rubber tires

YES oil eats rubber, it may take a while but it will eat it.

What brand of tires are they? Have they ever been exposed to some chemical that would have damaged them? We have tractor tires that sit outside year round that haven't suffered that kind of damage. Are you using something like Armour All (will cause a lot of damage)?

PS don't use oil!
