I have a 9700 Ford that I use primarily for a rotary cutter on C.R.P. ground. I know where I can get a 5 bot plow close by pretty cheap. The tractor has fluid in tires and wheel weights and is 135 h.p. The plow wont be used much so I was wondering if I'd be better off with a 4 bot? The concern I have with pulling it is the ground I'll be plowing is old fields of thick fescue.

A good friend of mine pulls 5X16"s with an 8000, and 6X16"s with his 9700. We have "tough" ground, and plenty of hills. He doesn't have any trouble. Good luck, John

I pull a 4-18 with my TW-20, about the same tractor. I'm keeping my eyes open for a good deal on a 5-18. I'd rather move a little slower. ;) I have some tough soils, sounds like you would have a good match.

Sounds like an excellent match in most ground- sand, clay, as long as it's not gumbo. Typical match here on heavy clay ground.

you don't say what size bottems the plow is, neighbor of mine has a 1066 IH stock HP 116 pulls a semi mount 5-18 no problems. I pulled the same plow with my 806-D reworked with 1206 turbo pistons and turbo, turned to 135 HP in sod easy. don't know how the ford pulls compaird to the IH.

You should have all the power you need to pull a 5 bottom plow. We pulled a 6-18 with a 1466 (about 150 horse) through everything from gumbo to breaking out alfalfa fields.
