Head gasket changing

I have an International 600 Diesel and I can see little bubbles coming out under the head near number 1 and number 2 cylinders. Obviously, the head needs to be pulled and the gasket replaced. I have pulled heads on gas Internationals, but never on a diesel. Is it much more difficult, or should I pay a professional? I don't see any water in the oil or vice versa. What special procedures or tools should I get. I am going to get the 600D service manual.

Thanks guys. These are all good suggestions and I will keep them all in mind when I actually get to this project. Will probably try re-torquing the head first, possibly this weekend. If I do end up having to pull the head to replace the gasket, I may have a valve job done on it as long as it is off. The motor switches over and runs really good right now and could save time and money if I just replace the gasket and put the head back on. Thanks again.

The first thing you should do is retorque the head bolts. This may take care of the situation
and cost you nothing but time.If that doesn't do the trick then you can go ahead and replace the gasket. It is important to follow the mfgs. proceedure for torquing and retighten after a few hours of operation. Ed

Should be no problem Richard as this is a normal mechanical repair. You can't get the plug wires crossed or get it out of time. Just remove the injector lines as a unit and when you pull the head be careful not to damage the injector tips that protrude below the head surface. Better yet pull them and have them checked while you have the head off.
