ford tw-15 water in oil

this tractor has 12000 hours, 2000 since rings,bearings, found water in the oil today, alot. about 2 gallons, started this pretty suddenly. motor seems to have partial skip. should I suspect head gasket, or does this 401 have wet cylinders? any help apprecitated.

Well I'd wager that at least one of your cylinders is now a wet one..... ..All kidding aside I'd say you have the dreaded bane of non-sleeved engines.....pin holing..... At least it can be bored out and dry sleeves inserted.

I saw your question somewhere else with a reply from Bern. He's the Ford guy, worked on them for years.....

As you are hearing, most likely cavitation pinhole with those hours.

401's are parent bore engines like all other '65 and up units. If you're EXTREMELY LUCKY it will be the head gasket, but it's more likely that it's a pin hole into the cooling jacket from cavitation corrosion. If I remember correctly the TW5/15/25/35 have the new style block, which is still available if you can't find a salvage one. Pull the pan, fill the cooling system and look for drips, you probably won't even have to pressureize the system to find them.
