Anyone other than me having problems with virus infestations from the discussions web site. If these sob's are that dam good at messing up PC's, you would think they could make a lot of money some other way. Update your Norton programs PDQ. I have had nothing , but problems from this site.

There are viruses that do come off of web sites, generaly not a site like this one. Like with the e-mail, some viruses do come into a computer through the spam. Some viruses can be detected by virus scans, and others cannot, some times firewalls can detect them. I did not have any anti-vrius program on my machines (I have about 9 computers on a home network)I use my firewall and found that I had a virus that used the internet to update them selves. If you have a hi-speed connection to the internet, there are many online scans you could do.

Here is another free anivirus site. I've used this and it has found 3 viruses on 2 of my computers. (1 on this one and 2 on another) Funny thing was I didnt even know I had them other than they started to run a little slow.

Just exactly what do you mean by saying that you've received virus' from this site? To my knowledge, websites don't give out virus' do they? And how do you come to the conclusion that you got a virus from the YT site? Does the virus ID itself as to where it came from? Nothing like causing a little panic .... very often the case with virus scares.

I've been active on here for more than 5 years, from both home and work, and have not had a problem from this site. I do get a lot of e-mail from spammers that harvest e-mail addresses from sites like these. My record is over 300 in a weekend. That is why I use only a Hotmail address on here.

Your problem is from somewhere else.

Viruses come in email, not generally from visiting a web site. If you leave your address here, you tend to get a lot of spam, & some viruses in your email inbox.

Good idea to get a free Hotmail or Yahoo email account & use that for forums such as this.

I have set up dummy accounts at both Hotmail and Yahoo. I have not used these for anything. Have not sent any mail to or from them. Have not used them for any boards.

The spam I have received in the past 2 months:

Hot Mail - 34 spam e mails. [21 so far this month]

Yahoo - Zero !

my ISP guy said that spam is the worst it has ever been.
I have been getting about 150 spam mails a day.
If my male member ever needs fixin I am all set.
Sunday my ISP added a spam blocker on his server.
So of course my email did not work at all for 2 days. :-/
Today I have a new account on the new server and it works!!!! No spams today any way.

Sammy, I have done the same thing. Hotmail = LOTS of spam. Yahoo = 0. Just go in and delete the spam without opening it every month.

I have never gotten a virius from this site.

Used this site for 5 years or more, no trouble. maybe you should spend a little money for virus protection then you wouldn`t have those problems.

You don't even have to buy anti-virus software if you don't want to spend the money.

Here is a site for a free download, and it is not just a 30 day trial one. It is my understanding that it is designed for large end users, but they allow anyone to use it, they just don't provide support for them. A "tech" recommended it to me.

It provides regular updates so that it keeps current on your computer. I'm comfortable with automatice downloads from them, and yesterday I received a larger one rather than the typically small download.

Here is the url if you would like to look the program over. It has not failed me, but I do still use Windows 95 and Netscape 4.79 which are less prone to problems anyway.

I know of some people that have installed AVG that have detected viruses on their computers that were entirely MISSED by Nortons!

Thank you all. I wish it was as simple as simply spending the money for another anti virus. I haven't had a bit of trouble until yesterday. I am running the latest Norton Antivirus. It would appear that mine is an isolated case from what I am hearing, so I have a unique situation here.

Thanks -JED

Say, ya hafta be extra careful what you open in your e-mail! Lately, in Yahoo mail, there has been a message, purportedly from Microsoft, telling you to down load this patch immediately! BUMMER!! It is definitely a virus! Just remember--Microsoft doesn't send patches by e-mail! If you did download it--lots of luck! I've rec'd many of them and they immediately go into the trash, unopened! Another thing--if you get a message from anybody that you aren't sure of, don't open it! Trash it. Better to be safe, than sorry! Do you have a good anti-virus program? If not better get Norton or McAfee pronto! I've been in YT for several years and have never gotten any virus! And also, if you have used PayPal for online transactions, there is a scam going on, where some wahoo tells you that Paypal has lost all of your info, and you'll have to send everything again to a certain address, which isn't Paypal. Its a "bugger" who will promptly steal your identity, credit card numbers, everything, and you'll be flat busted pronto! If you know the definition of a bugger, it certainly describes those who send out virus laden messages! RJ
