Was the exhaust stack always covered? Is there any other way that water could get into the engine through the exhaust system? If so, you'll probably need to pull the cylinder head and take a closer look. Another thing to check is that the valves all move freely; pull the rocker arm cover and tap the rocker arms with wooden or rubber mallet. If a valve is stuck and the rest of the engine isn't, you'll bend the pushrod by trying to crank the engine.

If the piston rings are stuck to the cylinder wall because a significant amount of water got in, you're probably going to have to pull the head and drive the pistons out. Check back with us; do't go pounding on the center (weakest part) of a piston.

Pour some lubricant into the spark plug holes. Let it sit a couple of days, and then try putting the transmission into 4th gear and rock it back and forth. If the motor turns, great. If not, take the starter off and pry with care on the ring gear with a bar. Don't jerk or hit it with a hammer, just put steady tension on it. It has always worked for me. Just freed up an M that had been sitting for years this way.

I'd fill the cylinders with turpentine and let it set a couple days and then go out and see if it would turn over with the plugs out of couse
