I was just reading about the SCAMS where the seller is offerd a cashiers check. I was actually contacted via phone recently. The "prospective" buyer contacted me by using Ameritech's service for the handicapped through a third party. He told me I had an e-mail about his interest in my tractor. Just another angle.

Even the phone operator says its a scam. Hang up. E-mail them and tell them no sale, and when advertizing say "no overseas sales". Also shuts them up if you tell them to transfer the funds to a US bank and when they clear you will continue. They use the hearing impaired phone service via email because it can't be traced.

I have got some of those. I tell them exactly what I think about them through the operator. They usually give some kind of stupid story about how they are really interested and I end up hanging up the phone. I have had them call back many times in a row. Whats this world coming to when a guy can't even sell an antique tractor without watching his back for somebody trying to srew him over!

If everyone strings these guys out long enough to pay for a "certified check" shipment, maybe they'll go out of business. That's what I did--had the guy emailing me, begging me to deposit the check and wire the difference. Told him I was on a road trip for 3 weeks, but my wife would deposit it and when I got home I'd send him the "balance". Never heard from him again. The one that tried to get me has an accomplice in Maryland--that's where the "check" came from anyway...
