Horses generally have one speed. Tractors have many. Kids like to go fast. Not recommended though.

There are more tractors around here than horses.

Many came close, but the real reason that horses are undesirable, they carry tails (tales?)

Most kids I know have never been on a horse-drawn hayride, so wouldn't know any different. I suspect it has more to do with the preference of the adults running the ride. Horses controlled by throttle are easier to handle than those controlled by reins..... ..

Tractors drive easy and they don't leave dung behind.

Well I reckon kids don't like looking at the hind end of a horse any better than anyone else

Tractor makes enought noise that the driver cannot hear what the kids say.

My guess is they love to yell and shout. The sound of the tractor lets them holler all they want.

Tractors don't leave those stinky calling cards that have to be cleaned up if your in a town anyway. Just a guess.

Kids around here don't have the say as to what pulls the wagon! And, there's nothing better than riding behind a really old Deere, sound that is--ahh, a comforting sound. eh! I know most of you never rode in the "rumble seat" of an old model A Ford, but there was something comforting listening to those 4 cylinders chugging away at 40 mph, about 30 miles from home, on a warm summer night! Ahhh, yes! How sweet it was! RJ P.S. Wanna hear more? Write me!
