My Massey carb and manifold freeze up in the winter after the engine warms up. What is the resolution?

Side curtains or heater hauser should work. I made my own and it solved the carb ice problem.

Use some de-icer in the gas. You will still get the frost on the outside of that long intake, but, you won't get the ice on the inside

Doug, That 44 has a long neck on the manifold that is prone to frosting up. I agree with the other posters that addition of a gas additive such as Drygas or Heet will help. It is not only for preventing gas line freeze ups. Also the gas with 10% ethanol will help if it is available in your area. The gasoline evaporating in the venturi acts as a refrigerant and will cause icing even at ambient temperatures above 32F, especially if the relative humidity is high. Ed

put in some gasline anti-freeze(isopropal) , and forget you ever had iceing up problems. That's what we have done for years. Just so happens , one of the tractors we had run in the winter was a Massey Harris 44.

You can fabricate a sort of oven out of a large coffee can or similar item. Simply cut the bottom out of the can, then split the can down one side, and form it around the carb and intake. You may need to notch the can in a few places to clear some obstructions. Once you get it to fit properly, tie it in place with some light duty wire. It's not a cure-all by any means, but it will help.

Thanks folks for your suggestions. I now get the drift. Does anyone know if the freezing up would cause the carburator to flood?

An Oldtimer told me once to let it run until the engine warms up,then shut it off until the frost melts off, then run it again, should be good, not much else you can do with those updrafts.

i have the same problem on my Massey Harris 44.
The intake gets frost on the outside of it.
Will the frost hurt anything?
