I recieved a phone call today from an operator that said she had a "message for me from someone on a computer." The operator would read me what she saw on her computer screen, and would type my reply.Yes, it was someone wanting to buy a tractor, and yes, it was overseas. The prospective buyer didn't want to take no for an answer until I told him it was cash only. The operator said he broke the connection after that. Why couldn't the "buyer" e-mail me directly??? I guess they know we are on to that one. Do these people ever quit??? Do they think we are all idiots??? Has anyone else experienced this?

One sure way to get scammed is to accept a cashiers check. These are easily counterfeited and forged, and banks will NOT take responsibility should they be bad. I know we have been led to believe that Cashiers checks are more foolproof than personal checks, but with a personal check, you can go to the bank and have the money immediately debited to the account from which it was drawn. This way the payor cannot stop payment on the check. Only after recieving the funds from the check should anyone ship the merchandise. Banks can determine with a phone call whether there are sufficient funds to cover the check. Any buyer who is legitimate understands this process and will have no qualms about waiting until his check is verified and cashed before his merchandise is shipped. Anyone who is not willing to go through this process is not to be considered a bonified customer and is not entitled to any other consideration. Seller beware is the theme of the times nowadays.

I don't understand how the bank can immediately debit the payer's checking account and credit the funds to your account. The check has to go thru a clearing house and back to the payer's bank before it's known good or bad. And YOU also can call the payer's bank to verify funds... if you have the bank phone number. Banks don't want to be bothered with that, so most don't put their phone number on checks. I have been to stores lately that accept a check, run it thru an electronic gizmo, and hand it back. Walmart is one. Maybe the funds are transferred at that moment. It won't be long before checks won't be accepted at all.
Happy New Year....

The scammers are everywhere! One trick they pull is to answer an ad for something you want to sell, with a letter, purporting to be from somebody in another country, who will send you a check for the item. the check will be for more money than the price of the item. What they want you to do is cash the check, take the price of the item and shipping charges out of the money, then ship the item, and send back any money that is left! Sound Good? HAH! By the time you send the item and the remainder of the cash, your bank finds out that the check is no good, and they come to you for payment! All of it! And you are left holding the bag, while the crook is setting at his place, with a free item! And free money, too! And, laughing all the way to his bank, with a good check! And, he's probably stopped payment on the check he gave you! A woman got taken to the cleaners just the other day, hereabouts! Was in the local paper! Same deal! She lost $2700, had to pay the bank. But sometimes the bank employee makes a mistake, and o.k.'s the check, you say? You may think you don't have to pay it back! HAH! OH, YES, You do! Recently a sucker lost a choice antique car with the same scam! And had to pay back to his bank! So, If it looks too good to be true, it probably is!!! Rusty Jones

I got the same call about a month or so ago. I think this is the program for the handicapped that the phone company offers. I asked the operator who paid. He thought a moment and replied that he thought there was not a charge. I have not recieved a bill for the call.
