Battery weight

Did you know that when you discharge a battery, it gets lighter in weight? When you put the electrons back in by recharging, it gains a little weight. Granted, small and not possible to measure, but, it`s true.

Jason,
Don't be silly. All you have done in recharging is 'moved' the electrons from one plate to the other, - at a higher chemical potential enegy. When you run the battery down the electrons don't go anywhere else, do they?
Even considering Einstein's E=mc2,
the gain in mass for that amount of energy would be infinitessimally small.
In fact, the battery is almost certainly going to get lighter when you just recharge it. Think about it, and come back to me if you can't work it out - and are interested enough for the answer!
Regards, RAB

Whadaya mean what's your point? The point is that you've learned something that you didn't know before. You'll probably be in the local bar tomorrow telling everyone the story that you just bad-mouthed. Be appreciative when someone gives you a little bit of knowledge, it'll go a long way. Just joking, but seriously, I think it's pretty interesting stuff. Meanwhile, did you know that when you add air to your truck tires that the gross weight of your vehicle increases, not much ... but it does increase.

The point is Jason doesn't understand the process and believes something a bull shooter told him. The only weight loss would be a wee bit of water in the electrolyte mixture being converted to O2 & H2 and floating away.

Ten out of ten. Yeh, well, I thought it might keep him thinking for a week or two!!!!

Could it be somebody talking about the specific gravity of the electrolyte causing this false notion? I know there are a couple of you who could expound on this subject, if you would please. Thanks MT Pockets.

Extra weight in the electrolyte came from the now lighter plates.

No guys, you've got it all wrong. Dead batteries are lighter ( less in mass ) the aliens come and take the energy out of our batts, therefore they are lighter.
