i have seen that done if you have good structure around the area. aexamine after sand blasting. it is common to have someout cut out a section and wire feed weld back a plate, maybe 3 or 4 inches square, then cut a hoe for the tube. you can grind down the weld and paint and looks great if you take your time fitting the steel plate.

I have welded the hole shut , and then gone around the rim 180 degrees and drilled a new hole for the valve stem, deburr the hole and have it mounted up.
