thanks, so much. I have the opportunity to pick up a 1720 with no implements or front loader for $6500 or a 950 with a loader and a backhoe attachment for $8500. So with their wgt. being so close and the 950 being able to be used for mowing lawn you have helped me out.

1720 with 2 wheel drive at 2,491.
1720 with 4 wheel drive at 2,711.
1720 with 4 wheel drive and shuttle shift trans at 2,690
Each with 23.5 PTO horsepower from a 91.3 cubic inch displacement engine. 950 with 2 wheel drive at 3,169.
950 with 4 wheel drive at 3,464.
Each with a 27.3 horsepower from a 105 cubic inch displacement Yanmar engine.

While I have a 1720 Ford, 4wd, SS trans, I certainly feel that the Deere is the better buy because of the equipment on it. Well, if you would ever use it that is. You might never want use of a backhoe and might simply want to sell it to someone who does. That would lessen your expense somewhat.

Are the tractors conditions similar? Hours of useage? A backhoe might put a lot of additional stress on one if used hard.

Do both have nearby dealers to get filters and parts and service from? How about ease of regular maintainence?

Does one engine turn at higher engine RPMs than the other? Slower often means more torque because of a longer stroked engine.

Do you feel the need for the additional horsepower of the Deere?

With loader and backhoe the Deere will be a lot less maneuverable and will weigh considerable more. Is that a factor when mowing, or is your area open?

Tires good on both tractors? In my opinion from my own experience, Ford used really crappy tires. I had lots of problems with them and tried to get Ford to replace them within the first 25 hours of usage. I got no where from my appeals with Ford. Otherwise the tractor has been great.
