A collector told me the other day that the oil in an LP engine would not turn black like the oil in a gasoline engine. Is this true, or was he pulling my leg??

LP engines run a lot cleaner than gas engines and yes the oil will get dirty but it takes longer to get black. I have two and change the oil just a frequent as a gas engine. If you ever pull the head off of one it will look new, hardly any carbon.

I used to work on propane powered equipment in a steel mill and I can tell you that the oil sure got dirty. It didn't have the same smell as oil that came from gas or diesel powered rigs but it sure enough was dirty.

True, but the oil will get thick and you have to change it like any other engine oil.
