Which would be better for a short bed truck? I am going to get a trailer for hauling tractors but in time I also want a camper. I was told that Reese makes a 5th wheel that slides just like the big truck's(about 10 inches)which would be good for the camper in tight places.

You can get fifth wheel hitches that slide to provide clearance between cab and trailer corners when turning. At least one company makes one that does so automatically. Check with a trailer or hitch dealer.

WHEN BUYING YOUR TRAILER OR CAMPER BE SURE TO MEASURE THE DISTANT FROM THE FIFTH WHEEL PIN TO THE OUTSIDE FRONT CORNER OF YOUR TRAILER THEN FROM THE CENTER OF YOUR FIFTHWHEEL TO THE BACK WINDOW OF YOUR TRUCK. I'VE SEEN A COUPLE OF THESE COME TOGETHER IN A REALLY SHARP TURN. NOT A PRETTY SITE

A friend of mine had a Chev short bed with a 5th wheel set-up... had zero problems with it! I have the Reese 20K# 5th wheel set up... the rails stick up from the floor of the bed about 3/4" ... I bought a rubber mat and cut it to fit between the rails so now the floor of my truck bed is level and protected by thick rubber matting... no problems, and the bed is not in any way restricted. My horse trailer is a gooseneck, I bought the Reese G/N plate (rated @ 25K#)that clips into the same rails at the 5th wheel hitch. It's a GREAT system... I've been using it for over 4 years and have had no problems! It's strong!!! Our "camper" is 37' long & weighs 14K# loaded! I've had that much & more on the horse trailer... pull with an F550!

I have the B and w turn over with ball, but they also have fifth wheel setup that uses same hole, also consider this when using a ball saftey chains are required, but not with a fifth wheel.

I have thought about the safety chains but is the adapter from the ball to the fifth wheel stable enough (no wobble) to handle the stress. I have been told they are not reccomended for anything over 30 ft. Camper wise.

I have a flip over ball, Reese makes an adapter for your 5th wheel RV to fit the gooseneck standard ball.

We use the B&W turnover ball gooseneck hitch in my F250 and Dad's F350. We use the ball hitch with the gooseneck trailer and we have the 5th wheel hitch that we use with Dad's camping trailer. It only takes a few minutes change from one to the other.

I think that with a shortbed you will have a problem with most fifth campers check into it before you get to deep.
