We received this by Email, and posting here in hopes that we can help. We've found stolen tractors before, let's all keep an eye out for this one. Thanks! Kim

===== ===== ===== ==
As a little girl, some of my fondest memories were growing up on the farm and riding on the rim of my Grandfather's International Farmall M tractor. He farmed over 100 acres of land in Morrow County, Ohio with two farmall's and a little Ford. My Grandmother took care of the farm house and was delighted to cook three hearty meals a day for the whole family. My brothers and I grew up next door to my Grandparents and as soon as school was out we would run over as soon as we could to see them. They were like second parents to us and I learned so much growing up on a farm. I learned about life and death, how to work hard for a living and about giving and sharing.

My family sold most all of my Grandfather's farm equipment when he passed, but we kept one special piece of him which was his Red International Farmall M tractor. My Grandfather's entire family have all held that tractor very close to our hearts. It has sat in the barn for many years, but it was almost like my Grandfather was right there sitting on that tractor. For the past 15 years since he has passed, I know my Grandmother, siblings, parents and other family members have visited the barn to reminisce and remember my Grandfather and what a good man was.

The reason I am telling this story is because on the morning of Thursday, Febuary 19'th two men parked a white flat bed truck at the end of my Grandfather's driveway and drove a small tractor down the drive. They broke in to my Grandfather's barn and hauled the Red International Farmall M, with flat tires, and the cutter up the drive and loaded it on their truck. Most anyone reading this will know that the tractor and cutter is not worth that much, but a lifetime of memories have been stolen from my family and myself. I still have pictures in my office of when I was a little girl on that tractor with my brothers and my Grandfather and that was all taken away from us by someone needing a little money. My family could have sold it if we wanted the money, but it was so sentimental to us that we left it in the barn to remember my Grandfather.

If anyone knows the whereabouts of my Grandfather's Red International Farmall M tractor that was stolen on Febuary 19'th, you would be mending the hearts of a whole family who misses our dear Grandfather and the one thing he loved most in life...farming with his Farmall Tractor. Please send any confidential replys to osubuckeye1972@yahoo.com Sincerely, A family of broken hearts

Funny how you described the truck that came down the driveway and stole it? Why did you not run out and confront the theives? Safety I suppose?

Ok Your watching them steal your grandfathers Farmall! Where do you live?

I think your full of it! Further more! You cannot ride on the rim of a tractor.

And Not many Crooks have to break into a Barn?

Sorry I will not be hoodwinked!

JD790,
I'm afraid I have to kinda lean towards your thinking on this. According to the message, looks like the whole thing was viewed. Why wasn't it stopped, why wasn't the police called, even neighbors could be called. I would guess it would be a pretty safe bet that tractor thieves are not going to be packing guns. Lets take a look at what we have here, a description of the vehicle, a blow by blow run down of all the events of breaking into the barn and towing the tractor to the truck. Another thing, howd they know they would need another tractor to pull this one???? Inside job perhaps?? That riding on the rim don't sound right either??? I do want to say that if this is factual and the story is true, I do feel for the family and I hope that the tractor is recovered.

I'm not a total skeptic but the story does sound a bit fishy.

This is a good reason to record serial numbers, take pictures, and add identifing numbers or stampings somewhere out of sight on your toys. The serial number plate can always be changed, but if you hide some other markings on the tractor,it can always be identified.

A little off-topic, but I wonder how many stolen tractors get restored & taken to shows ??? It is possible that someone could unknowingly buy a stolen tractor, restore it, & then lose it if someone could prove it was stolen from them. Just something to think about..... .. I have known several owners that had tractors stolen, & they were never recovered.

Maybe "For Real" and "Pete" are in on the theft and are trying to hide the truth. That sounds like it to me. All theives will pay for their sins someday.

Why do "For Real" and "Pete" (below) think this is a scam post? Perhaps a bit longer than needed but I can't for the life of me imagine why anyone would think it's bogus. Maybe I'missing something.

It's not bogus, as osubuckeye posted a response on the Farmall board. I can understand why they thought so though, you see a lot of this type of letter that ARE just internet crap. Because of all the crap e-mails, one does tend toward disbelief.

i dont think its a scam, i think its a little emotional but they dont make anything by saying it was stolen so its not a scam i come from a very similiar story minus the robbery so it happens

I'm going to stick my neck out and if wrong, I'm sorry. This smell like a lot of "urban ledgens" and such that well meaning people use e-mail to keep going round and round. Too well writen and real grabs your feelings. To me it smells, if I am wrong, I'm sorry.

Really sorry to hear that. It would be very helpful for the rest of us to help find it, if we knew the serial number. Any way to get that?

Really sorry to hear about your stolen tractor. One tip always write down the SN of your tractor. I write mine on my manual covers. It is sometimes useful when ordering parts as well.

I go one step further. I use a dremel to mark my tractors with my drivers liscense number. Put it in an out of the way place. I do that just In case they chisel off the serial number plate. Lots of machines around missing their plates.

Good idea, but maybe a social security number, in case it is moved out of your state.

Boy!!!!! !!! NO NO NO on the social security number. In the age of identity theft loosing a tractor is going to be cheap compared to the headaches involved with somebody opening up credit cards under your name.
