HI- i'd be interested in hearing about any equipment(motorized, tools etc) that you have pretty much fabricated from scrap/junk laying around the farm. It needent be pretty, just functional in my opinion. I built a loader for a bolens lawn tractor one winter. Was gonna buy those cad plans, but then i figured it couldnt be that hard to make by copying an similar loader. This was probably one of the best learning experiences I ever had..from the welding to lining up angles and pin holes. It worked well but you hafta remember its only a garden tractor.. stick the bucket into a stump and lift and the rear comes 2 ft of the groud..... thanks

I enjoyed reading your followups on the farm made projects. I thought the readers might be intersted in a newspaper I ran across recently. Called FARM SHOW (1-800 834-9665) out of Lakeville Minn. I am not in any way involved with this publication, I just thought it was clever. It listed stories and pictures of farm built/modified equipment. From Self-propelled wood splitters to indestructable bale feeders made from fuel storage tanks. My favorite was a fellow from Selbina Missouri who removed the engine from a IHC C and added 4 ft to the frame then mounted 8 bicycle frames with pedals in place of the engine. He uses it at tractor shows where kids get to pedal-power the tractor around the show, Too clever!

I built a post/pipe driver. It will sink a six inch by ten foot pipe in this Georgia clay to a depth of five feet in just a few whacks.

I made an air compressor from a water heater and an old comercial freezer compressor. It has workded great for 10 years now. Made a 3 pt. for both my MT John Deere and My WD allis. I think my MT ended up better than anything out there for sale. Still perfecting my WD. Made a blade from old worn grader blades. Works good but is so heavy that I pop wheelies with my MT if not careful.

This winter I made a three point hitch for my Farmall M. Looks great and works great. Very similar to the after market brands but this one cost me less than $200.00. A good amount of that was for the bottom links.

Everyone is showing a nice bunch of stuff they made but all I am seeing is the stuff that turned out GREAT. What about the stuff that ain't so great. I built a small wagon to move a 10,000 watt generator from heated storage to the transformer hookup in the cold winter months. No point having a generator if it wont start at -40, right. Bought some wheels amd gathered up some scrap iron and away I went. Who knew building a wagon would be so hard. When I was done I had something that looked like it had been built by someone who had never even seen a wagon before! It held together just long enough to get the generator from the shop to the kennel where it was being stored. By then the frame had bent, the axles had bent, the handle had bent and it took two of us to pull the thing. My wife looked at me and said " That worked great, Honey". I just laughed and picked up my Princess Auto catalog to look at REAL wagons.

A logging arch with an electric winch for my JD750 , a road transporter for an old pull-type disc harrow with no wheels, converted a front blade to a power angle rear blade, a set of forks for the 67 loader on the JD, a gas engine powered stationary winch for a marine railway, a weight pan for a rock rake, and I'm working on a small screener for compost.

And my wife things that big pile of "stuff" beside the shed is junk...

I made a small wood chipper last year, with a 13HP Briggs and scrapiron engine, pull start. it chips small stuff but it is useless for anything over 1.5". total cost is $850, 600 of it was the new motor. looks nice though.

I built a 5x8 trailer with a old axle I had and some angle iron picked up here and there. When I needed a stock trailer I got some extra concrete rebar that was left over on a job and enclosed the top with the rebar. The entire thing from the floor up is made from rebar; including the doors. I have just finished a hitch attachment for my tractor. Rather than buy or make a separate one purpose thing I just welder the center piece off a old truck step bumper on the back of my box scraper. Works great; just hook trailer to box scraper and go.

Built a finish/belly mower for my Farmall A. Used it for 30 years and wore it out. Then bought a used woods L59 for the wife for mothers day. Also converted the A to hydraulic. Built a 3 point slip scraper. Took parts from a horse drawn hay mower and belly mounted it to the A. Welded up a lot of things that I broke.

What kind of tractor rodeo games do you play with that equipment. If you would e-mail me you rules. I can see possibly one. I have run slow races, ball drops,barrell roll, barrell push,egg breaking and wagon contest.

Those are some real nice pieces of equipment. Do you use them or just build them for others, everything looks so clean and pristeen. Lol. How well does the scraper blade work? Would you be willing to sell a set of prints for it? Can I come to your house and "play" (hang out and learn from you)? Real nice equipment!

Yep, come on over. I built this stuff for myself. I would only make $2 an hour if I made them for someone else LOL. I dont really have any plans but its not that hard to make. The land leveler shown in the picture works great for rock drive ways and loose dirt. I have a pretty good side income from it during the warmer months. Thanks Charlie

cat. II root rake, four hay spears, two carry alls, cat i pan, cat ii pan, cat II pull pan, post hole auger, haybug carrier, pull behind grader, overhead gantry crane, 16 trailors of various sizes, one with hydraulic dump, two square bale hay wagons, pull boom sprayer, two 3 pt. sprayers, fork attachment, boom lift, couple of hydraulic presses, couple of air compressors from ac compressors, hay wagon for round bale hay, lime spreader from a state sandspreader, irrigation pump, standby generator, engine lifts and stands. thinking of making a pasture drag using some type of folding tool bar and truck tires now, but haven't figured the best way to mount and fold the tires. just about all the metal i can get from local junkyard, or from the engineering jobs i do occasionally, my brotherinlaw has a source for axles, and i love to fabricate, its recreation for me.

I built a 3pt 3 shank deep till ripper. I bought new shanks and used spring loaded swivel culters off an anhydrous rig, guage wheels off a cyclo planter and the frame was made from a big roatary hoe frame. The first 3pt hitch it had broke off after about a year of use but i rebuilt it heavier. It was quite a project for me at the time i was only 16.

I fabricated a heavy duty Cat II 3pt hitch root rake/scarifier. It is heavy enough to push or pull brush. I have use it as a shallow subsoiler, (up to 12").It is 8'wide with teeth on 12" centers. I used teeth from a box blade. They are adjustable and removeable. With the teeth removed you can use it as a drag. It works real well on driveways.

Bale elevator, in-barn bale conveyor, farrowing crates, silage/pig/sow mover for AC Snap-Coupler, covered bale feeder, bale forks for front and rear of loader tractor, pull-type rock picker, spring-tine harrow cart, rock wagon from dump truck, hydraulic windrow turner, reversed loader tractor, 60 foot pull-type sprayer boom with hydraulic wings and breakaway ends, skidloader boom, 13 foot rubber tire packer for grain drill, two ton rotating shop hoist with 20 foot overhead beam and auxiliary jib beam with one ton hoist.

We're currently putting up a quonset style building using the panels from two 18' grain bins.

We first constructed a steel 'sled' using pipe salvaged from 5 long Kewanee and Mayrath auger frames. This 'sled' is 18' wide and 45' long, with a 5' high 'kneewall' on each side. The grain bin panels are going on top of that. We're ending up with a peak height of 13 feet.

This will be the new home for my 1486 and 12-row planter.

I built a 3 spear round bale hauler for the back of my tractor. I can haul two large bales side-by-side on the outside spears or just haul one on the inside spear. It turned out great and I use it Summer and Winter. Two on the back and one on the front. Saves a lot of trips on the 1000-1500 bales I bale and feed each year.

well i have built - 3pt sprayer, 3 pt round bale UN-roller, self dumping hay trailer for rolled hay, 8 ft rotary mower, 5 ft belly mower for super a, and several other items over the years.

sorry i do not have a picture of it. built it for a neighbor and he sold it at auction last year. HOWEVER - he all ready had a worn out/warpped up mower. i simply took the blade spindles off and used a piece of 11 ga 5 x 8 sheet metal to fabricate the deck and sides. was able to use the mounting brackets from the old mower to the new frame. i am sure the same could be done by buying new blade spindles and measuring a new mower. HOWEVER - by the time you bought the new parts not real sure you could come out ahead to build one. did the same on the 8 ft mower. man had agood gear box/blade. i just built the frame for it.

Just finishing a "harrow" attachment for the rear of an 8' disc I own. It's a 3 point hitch disc. The harrow folds up on top of the disc for transport, or when you just don't need it. It has 8" long "spikes", 4"s apart. I disced a garden with it yesterday. The disc was running about 8"s deep. The ground looked like it had been hand raked when I was done. I'm going to post pictures soon. John

I am really interested in this harrow. I am looking for something to drag behind the mower as I groom pastures to break up manure piles. Of course, I don't want to tear up the turf more than necessary.

I just posted a pic of a harrow that I made in the implement photo section. You can see how it works; thats the garden I used it on last fall. I think I have less than $25 in new lumber and hardware. I made it from leftovers of other projects, but even new it would'nt be over $60-70. I want to eventually make a 3Pt. hitch for it, just looking for some scrap metal.

An old double bed spring works great! It has to be an old open spring style if you can find one yet. As you pull it, it starts shaking and that nasty pile just about dissapers. The faster you can go, the better. the turf will never know it was there. This works to break up lumps before new seeding also. I can't find another one and I wouldn't sell mine for anything.
