Doug - you have to envision what the inside of the early 8N steering box looks like, then it makes perfect sense. The steering rod from the steering wheel comes down inside the steering box towards the front of the box. Then, your left side steering sector is snugged up against the steering rod gear. Then, your right side steering sector is snugged up against the left side steering sector, so that when the left sector turns, it makes the right side turn the opposite direction (this way one arm moves forward, and the other moves back - thus making the wheels turn in the same direction). You want to snug the steering sectors up, so you want them to be pushed TOWARDS the steering rod gear, or the front of the tractor. And, you want the left one tightened up FIRST, if you don't, you will move the right sector forward and snug it up against the left sector, only to then move the left forwards and AWAY from the right (remember, the left side is in the middle)- which you just snugged up. So, move the left sector first, and to move it towards the front of the tractor, you have to turn it counter clockwise (towards the front). Then you move around to the right side and move it forward, which will be clockwise. Hope this helps. Good luck, Dan
