I am looking for a 30-50 H.P. tractor. I am going to use it for plowing, disking, cutting, raking, and baling hay. I do not want a 3 point hitch or hydraulic remotes. Does anyone know what would be the best tractor for the job? I would like to stick with Allis, John Deere, Oliver, or Farmall. I would appreciate any help.

Since you have advertised a WD for sale and wanted to sell the snap coupler off of a D14 maybe horses would be a better choice for you

Go buy one of each.....
One tractor is never enough anyways.
I have five acres with twelve tractors.
Does that make me a collector of a fool????

Seems to me you ask this same question every week or day or so. Have seen your posts several times on the same subject or "what to buy" fill in the blank brands and models. Cant believe that if your were going to buy you would have done so already.

Noticed that for a long time- why I didn't answer. Same with numerous previous posts that could have been answered by buying and reading the operator manual. Already has a D14 that can do all those things, so why trade? To go downhill with no hydraulics? Wanted to 'sell' the Snap-Coupler off it a few days ago. Years ago we used to buy them for $25. Was thinking the best tractor would be Tinkertoys or Erector set- could change models at every whim. Of course, this could be just a college prank. Ann Landers used to check the postmark for New Haven, Conn. when the real doozies came in.

JMS, I can over look a little BS, just get tired of seeing the same thing over and over, sometimes you just have to say something, call the bluff if you will. Have a great Easter!

I see you are struggling with this. :)

You seem to have a real good list there, and it seems you know already what you want.

Don't get hung up on a color, or worrying about what you shoulda coulda aughta have bought.

I would look at what is (was) popular in your area. Getting parts & knowledge on how & what to fix will be a lot easier if you are one of 100 people owning that kind of tractor, vs being one of 2 people who own that color.

Shop on price. If you make a good deal, even if you hate the tractor - or it doesn't do what you want - you can sell it again next year for about what you paid for it. The neat thing of a well-used tractor. They hold their value if you bought smart.

All of the tractors you mentioned in your messages below will be a fine general purpose machine. That is exactly what they were built for - a little bit of everything.

One color or model might have some nicer features for plowing, another will have better features for mowing. And so on.

Just pick one you like, and be happy with it. It won't be totally perfect for everything - but any of those models you have listed before will do what you want, and do it pretty darn well.

I'd sure want a live pto for baling hay. It can be mierable baling without it.

IMHO, you will really limit yourself without hydraulics & 3pt. how will you cut the hay????? You either need hyd or a 3pt to raise & lower the sickle mower. Or find a rather rare lever operated bar. No haybine or moco without hydraulics.

Same with a disk, can't use a wheel disk, those trailing models you adjust with a lever/ rope are hard to find & do not travel well.

Now, it can be done. Buy why make life hard? :)

Farmall H or M - good all around dependable tractor & simple to maintain - also , because of the huge no's made , they are one of the cheapest to buy (about 12 to $1500 for a GOOD one )..... and , of course , i just happen to have some for sale ! ( and a plow & sickle mower , & ..... )

An Allis 7580 ought to do the trick ;'). I don't know, maybe like a farmall 300U, those are pretty cheap and most dont have 3pt or hydrolics, or if you would like something with power brakes, maybe an international 484 or 584. There sure are alot of tractors that would fit your needs. What do you plan on using to cut hay with?.

I would pick a FARMALL M, or a SUPER M if you want live power takeoff, with a IH 3 14" drag plow ;IH a 8'drag ; IH 27V 7'mower and a 50T IH hay bailer.....a great list of toys,I helped my Dad farm with these back in the late 40's.....

Maybe a better question would be which Forum is right for me. Every tractor has its good points.
So read the different forums everyday to see which
one you like best and get that kind of tractor.
When you get a tractor you will be coming back to
the forums anyway, and dont forget to read the safety information too.
That way you are going to win because even if you
dont like what you have then you can sell it and
get another one.
