Folks: Has anyone here ever used a product called Restore with CSL. It is added to the engine oil, and is supposed to fill the tiny scratches and surface imperfections on the cylinder walls with copper, silver, and lead particles and result in better compression. I am tempted to try it in my semi-weary gas MF35, but I'm not sure. Anyone out there got any answers? Thanks!

I had a can of similar stuff given to me, and I put it in my '89 Dodge "Power Ram 50" (who says marketing people don't have a sense of humor!) with 100K+. It DID cut down on the smoke and oil usage, and also made it a bit easier to start in cold weather. I have heard some bad things about the "Slick 50"-type teflon-based formulas; basically they are prone to gumming up your oil passages and may make things worse. However, based on my limited and admittedly unscientific experience, I would say that if your engine is tired already, spending $10.00 for a can of stuff isn't going to hurt anything, and it's not so much money that you're going to have to take out a second mortgage. If it helps, even marginally, it's money well spent.

I had an 82 Ford pickup w/351W engine that burned a quart every 500 miles - it had been abused and had a few miles on it when I got it. I put in Restore and after about 2 weeks it burned a quart in 300 miles! Made things worse for me.

If those miracle cures actually work, why do we even bother to overhaul engines? You get what you pay for...

You get what you pay for and theres no quick fix in a can. If its getting weak you can run say a 40 or 50 stright weight oil and get as much from it as you can from the restore. And the thicker oil will not hurt any thing, also a stright weight oil works better in old engine then a multiweight.
