I just bought a 1486 on ebay and I think I am really going to like this tractor. All my friends have John Deere. What can I say to them to win them over?

Alan, you bought yourself a good tractor. I gerw up on international tractors, they are good tractors. when i worked for another farm around my house all they had was deere's they were good too. i also pull a farmall super m and a ford 5000. so as you can tell i have tried them all. the reason i like internatioal tractors is because of price deere parts are so expensive, just because of the name. if you like that tractor keep it it will last a long time. My family are pretty much JD fans. I have gone the way of IH simply because they are less expensive. Cheeper to buy and cheeper to work on.

That just makes since to me.

I grew up with John Deere. Dad had done some pulling in the early '70s and had owned an IH tractor or two, so when we needed another tractor to plow and do hay, he picked up a good deal on a 1466. It had great power (well, after some non-factory adjustments were made) and did a pretty good job. Compared to our JD 4230s and 4430, it was clumsy, the controls were very awkward, and the hydraulics didn't come close to the Deere's. Eventually, the 1466 was traded for another 4230.

If you find a tractor comfortable, reliable and worth owning, then that's the right tractor for you.

Why get caught up in all that red - green business. Blue is the only way to go anyway! :)

Pressure wash and wax the red early and often. Paint red as needed.

I'd suggest a nice luncheon with finger sandwiches and a light white wine. Maybe one that comes in a bottle that is not molded to look like a bunch of grapes. Definitely not one that comes in one of those plastic-lined boxes with a spigot. If that doesn't work, maybe some professional intervention is needed.

Alan, Why do you think its important to "win them over" in the first place. If you feel you have a better tractor than its green counterpart, that should be enough. You have no more reason to defend your decision to buy a red tractor than your friends do because they bought a green one. If your 1486 does the work for which you bought it, and performs to your satisfaction, that is reason enough. If your friends and neighbors wish to challenge that point, just invite them to bring their John Deeres to your place and try to do what you do with your 1486 International. The least that can happen is you get some free work done. Think Tom Sawyer.

I agree with Paul. This is America! Enjoy every laugh you can get! My hubby is an Oliver feller, and hooted at the coffee table guys about their green John Deere's, until he had an opportunity to pull a G out of a wooded hillside! Now it is half way ready for the track - just in time for more humor and jostling around at the corner store as pulling season is almost here. Because my hubby loves tractors, but isn't color blind, we have 2 Masseys, 1 Case, 1 AC, and who knows if something isn't folling on the yard at this moment. Got his son involved in pulling & mechanic'g antique ole powers too! Don't sweat the small stuff. Do your thing, grin, and have a good time. Life is short... My 3cents... (from experience). ~~Dee

Just because you think you're going to like it, don't mean that it's better, or any good for that matter.

Nothing! If they bleed green, it probably has stopped up their ears. Best to sat nothing and then just show them.
