The tractor is 8 yrs old, model # 917.256552. It has been working wonderful for that period. This Saturday, it cranked up first try as usual, but wouldn't move when the motion control lever was engaged in either forward or reverse. I jacked the rear end of the tractor up and put it in gear and the wheels would turn, but still would not move under load. Calls to Sears Customer Service, and even a trip to the closest Service Center was no help.
Can anyone give me some ideas?
Thank you,
DHarlow

Our Crapsman is a 1998 model, and there is a little lever on the back of the tractor that allows the hydrostatic transmission to be disenguaged to allow the tractor to freewheel. You have to push it up and there is a hair pin that goes through it to hold it up for it to freewheel. Did somebody else put your tractor away last fall?, because thats problably what they did, and didn't put the lever back, and if thats the case, all you have to do is pull the pin and let the lever fall back down, then put your pin back through the lever. This has to be done every time you want to push the tractor by hand so you don't damage the transmission.
hope this helps

A hydrostat has a lever that either disconnects a gear, or on some models releases pressure on the ssytem to allow it to be pushed. Are you sure the lever is in the normal position? Also check that the drive belt to the hydrostat is good, and check the fluid level in the hydro.
