I approached some older fellas in town about the idea of starting an antique tractor club. There is definately some interest. I see something laid back just to display our old iron and implements at the local fair or local parades. In the future maybe a plow day demonstration.

What is your experience? I do not want to create something that will become a PITA 2-3 yrs. down the road. Our definition of antique would be same as the state does for vehicle registration.

ShepFL About seven years ago 8 strangers showed up at a local parade with old tractors. We had heard of each other but had never met. We became friends and decided to start a club like the one you have in mind. In two years we had 100 members and over 200 tractors between us. We go to 22 local parades each year, have 3 gettogethers at a local steakhouse, and the Satuaday after Thanksgiveing have a plowday where we have at least 40 tractors plowing and playing all day. We all have a ball and have made many new friends. Our dues are twenty five dollars per family which pays our insurance, mailings and for te food at plowday. We are the Southeast Ga. Rusty Relics and are located in southeastern Ga. I think if you start your club and go to a few events you will be surprized at how many people you will pick up with interest in old tractors. Our deal is have fun and don't make work out of it.

Our club has been around for about 15 years, and dealt with EDGE&TA for insurance until about two years ago. Also had their regional meeting here a few years ago. Insurance is always a big deal and needs to be addressed. Also important is getting the club organization set up properly. Many things to consider. If you are interested, I could forward a copy of our by-laws, to give you an idea of some things that need to be considered. Others might be interested in doing the same for you.

ShepFL,
I assume FL stands for Florida. I have heard (but cannot verify) if you have a function that is approved by the Florida Flywheelers, their insurance would cover you. You might want to check that out.

You are right and that is the pi$$er in all of this. Have to dilute our focus from our hobby/livlihood etc. to ensure we are IDIOT PROOF. My thought was to become a branch of Early Day Gas Engines and Tractor Association and if accepted obtain insurance through them. Not sure of how else to proceed with insurance coverage.

The link below has alot of good info on EDGE&TA and insurance.

Shep, I checked out the EDGETA thing and it is great for small groups and groups just starting out. The hangups I saw were the people who must be covered, where and when you are covered and in the end the cost. Once again, I do believe it is the way to go for small groups and groups just starting out. Our club has established a national reputation for our show and putting on exhibits, and along with that has come a $9000 liability insurance bill. It seems like everytime we sneeze the insurance company wants another $1000 for something. One good way to start out is to attend as many shows as possible and carry a handful of club flyers with you.
