Has anyone heard of a tubine powered tractor from the factory? My brother-in-law said International made one but I don't believe him.

Here is picture of the HT340 as it resides in Penfield. The tractor will be going back to the Smithsonian this winter so if you want to see it this summer will be your last chance.

Redman, IH did indeed build a turbine tractor. The HT340 was an expermental tractor introduced in 1961. Its home for the last 30 or so years has been the Smithsonian museum. It is now on loan to I&I Tractor &Gas Engine Club in Penfield Illinois. To the best of my knowledge, it never got past the expermental stage and no plans for mass production were ever discussed.

International used a turbine manufactured by Solar which was an IH subsiduary. Now owned by Cat. During the 50&60's, every company toyed with turbine power in everything that required motive power. Right down to portable fire pumps that could be caried by one man. Chrysler was big into automobile turbine power. I have a 300HP/225KW Solar turbine that fits into the back of a pickup.

The entire turbine, gear box, generator, switch gear and controls all fit into the cabinet thats 4x4x8. No radiator but takes a pretty good sized fuel tank. Turbine turns at 37,000rom and exhaust is 117 db. Probably couldn't get an emisison waver for California.
