What kills them, and where do I buy it? Lowe's doesn't carry anything. These things have found my barn, and are starting to do some damage.

Mix some Sevin powder into water for spray. Follow directions on container as to strength, procedures, and where NOT to spray the stuff. Coat the boards they like, and the carpenter bees will die. One application on their favorite spot in my pole barn worked for at least 4 or 5 years!
They'd show up in the spring, and within a day or two, be laying dead on the floor.

Dust some Sevin into the holes you can reach. They will carry it into the nest and it kills the babies too.

They will drill in painted wood, but not as bad! I have found that filling the holes with "bondo" and re-painting will slow them down, but some return.

I have seen them drill in painted wood. I have also heard that if you put moth balls in nylons and hang them around, it will keep them away.

I use brake cleaner, works better than bee spray and is cheaper. When I got some extra time I use a pellet rifle. works real good and is a great stress releaver. DH

I pay my kids or their friends twenty five cents a bee if they kill'em. I spray with lindane, it is a little oily and seems to stay around longer than other sprays. I have just repl;aced the face boards behind my gutters and they were all eaten up from Carpenter bees. This is war!!

I just use wasp and bee spray in the aerosol cans. The foaming kind works real well. Fill the holes with plasic wood filler.

MIx up a batch of poision ( pyrithin ? ) and spray the eaves and stuff where they hang out/drill. Do this about 3 times during the summer and you should be fine. I used to use Dursban but it has been restricted.
