I'll apologise in advance if I'm running afoul of the "terms of use" or whatever, of this board, by posting this item here, but I'm hoping this may do someone here some good....We deal in surplus, on a very small scale, here in the S. F. Bay area, and got some surplus material that old truck and tractor restorers should be able to put to good use. When the Navy shipyard at Mare Island was closed down, the various and sundry equipment and stores have been sold off over a period of time, and we got some interesting odds and ends, among which is a quantity of the "Cooley 50oz." ultra high-quality upholstery vinyl or naugahyde or "artificial leather" or whatever it is, which they used for the seats and cushions on the ships and the nuclear submarines. We have a number of the full factory rolls of the stuff, still in the original factory plastic wrapping....its all black, and is much stronger than the usual automotive naugahyde, with a fine "texture" to look and feel like black leather. It doesn't have the foam backing as does the usual car upholstery material, but is the same on both sides, or "reversible" as it were.....One fellow who knows a bit about upholstery fabrics looked at the stuff, and said that it had ultra-fine fibreglass strands in the material, for high strength, but still with the flexibility of leather..... I would think this stuff would be the optimal material for re-doing the seats of older trucks and tractors. The rolls are 5ft. wide, and are approx 60 yards of material per roll. This stuff is completely out of our line, and I'd sell it all very very cheaply. The rolls weigh 350-ish lbs. per roll, and we can forklift them on to any open truck readily enough. We have about 15 rolls of the stuff here.... I'm hoping that, possibly, some club or group of old equipment restorers would feel like making us a deal for all of it at once, then splitting it up amongst themselves..... or, if someone who does heavy-duty upholstery work would want only a roll or two, thats fine also.... My e-mail address here is "carla@tactical-link.com"....please give me an e-mail if you can use any of this stuff, or know of some appropriate place for us to advertise it.... cheers Carla
